I Need Fudge!

Straw Boaters Everywhere!

A little while ago, Susie posted a link on Twitter to the most fabulous website which I bookmarked straight away – vvshu.com. I can’t read the language but i’m presuming that it is Japanese and the majority of the magazines are Japanese too. So, that doesn’t exactly make for a very exciting read, but who cares about reading when you have so many beautiful pictures to look at. I spent literally hours this morning clicking through the pages of the last 3 issues of Fudge, the magazine I was most excited to take a look at.

It took me so bloomin’ long because I was print screening every other page because of the beautiful editorials. I’m not sure what it is I love about them so much – I think it’s because they are the kind of photos I dream to take of myself for the blog, and the Blythe-like girls are wearing perfectly styled outfits, often complete with a straw hat of some sort (oh how I need to buy one!). I couldn’t post all of the pictures I saved, as you’d be scrolling forever…but what I have done is hidden the second part of the post so it doesn’t take up the entire page – please click on the link at the bottom to see the rest of my favourites!

I’d love to get my hands on the latest issue, but it just costs too much from eBay. If anybody knows if I can get hold of Fudge in London i’d be terribly grateful.

I hope you enjoy the pictures x

FUDGE is one of my favorite favorite Japanese magazines, along with spoon. I live in Tokyo and would so happily parcel swap with anyone who has access to Lula, frankie, or Vogue Girl Korea!

lovely! i want it too! Great post! If you have more photographs like this, please show us more! xx

Love them all! But my favourite has to be the one with the plastic horses. No wonder you print screened everything. xo

i love japanese magazines, and fudge is one of my favourites! the website is in chinese, but the magazines are japanese.

  5. Winnie Reply

I love that website too and as a result, I’ve saved a hell of a lot of money going to the Japan centre for magazines. Fudge is about Β£12!

They don’t feature any Japanese women in their magazine even though its based in Japan? That seems a bit odd to me. Western beauty standards πŸ™

Of course the styling is great, great use of vintage, etc, etc.

Yes, it is strange. Which is ridiculous as Japanese women are beautiful!!
Weirdly enough, I can’t imagine the girls in that magazine to be used in any magazines over here though, they’re just a little young and “quirky” looking.

I have no idea where I read it and I really wish I could find the article as it’s a pretty interesting area of discussion, but one view is that apparently it’s to do with the type of magazine and what they want to represent/portray. So Vogue Nippon is mostly westernised because they represent western clothes and designers. There are some magazines which will only use Japanese models (like Can Cam) while others will try and bridge the two and use only mixed race models (Vivi), so it’s relatable but to an extent, still a little bit exotic.

Hmm that was probably not that interesting but I just wanted to share πŸ™‚

Yesss, I love Fudge!! I have a subscription through a Japanese bookstore out in the suburbs, which is great but rough because it’s a long bus ride to go and pick it up every month! They only charge $8 per issue here, way cheaper than buying on ebay. I would definitely recommend checking at any Japanese bookstores in your city to see if they have it or can order it again. It’s so, so cute. I usually post scans of my favorite parts, and have found some neat designers in their pages! I’m about three issues behind now, though…

Wow, I might just have to pick a copy up sometime. I love all their hairstyles, very cute. And definitely wanting a straw hat now!

I love that I can actually read some of the magazine covers! (I study Japanese, but I have such a long way to go)

Anyway, thanks for the link! I know I’ve been there before, but I lost it and couldn’t find it again.

Wow, what a great tip, think i’ll know what I’ll be doing all night now πŸ™‚ besides having a watch of the dannii minogue style queen programme on itv 2 at 9, mainly so I can get wound up about how little celebs do for designing their ‘own’ collection!! x

Wow those are so beautiful. That’s always frustrating when you can’t find something in your own country.
Good luck on the fudge hunt!

What a lovely magazine! I would have said you should visit the Japan Cantre in Picadilly but some people have already said so, and the discussion about why the models are occidental is pretty interesting too, I’ve spotted a Vivienne Westwood jacket and Ralph Lauren dress in those pictures you’ve posted, that might be why they’re not oriental….

I’ve taken a look at Yesasia and they haven’t got it, there are a lot of issues on Yahoo! Japan though, they are at 100~500 yens which is pretty cheap but you need a shopping service and that is more expensive, I’ll consider ordering a few though, it looks like the mag is worth it! Or might get one from the Japan Centre website idk haha

How funny. I just had a layover in Japan last week and saw that magazine and bought it. It’s AMAZING. And they have more like it, but with different names. Oh how I wish I bought more magazines there.

Hi. I want to say how much I like your blog and I think you are a very pretty young woman who is an inspiration to us all.

What I would like to ask is would it be possible to post more on how to achieve your hairstyles as I think they are amazing and very chic. You remind me of some of the french women in Paris.

One style in particular I like is the french twist/roll. Would it be possible to make a post showing us how you achieve this particular style?

Here’s a website that sells individual issues!- http://stores.magazinecafeny.com/-strse-3246/Fudge-magazine%2C-Japanese-fashion/Detail.bok

I don’t know how much they are going for on Ebay but on that site they are sold for $14.50 USD. They are located in NYC but ship internationally.

They sell a TON of magazines from world round, especially exciting for me haha. I’ve usually had to struggle to find copies of Lula in the States, so I just bought a copy of that and this magazine too! (:
