Sunny?! Yeah right.
Whilst staying with Lucy in Surrey we decided to pop down to Brighton for the day. I had never been before, but had heard lots about it so I was very excited to see what the fuss was about. We started off by spending time around the pavilion and grabbing some pizza before heading towards The Lanes to do a little window shopping. Due to an early start, nasty weather and no money, I wasn’t much in the mood for shopping so i’m afraid I don’t have any tips for you, but i’m 100% sure i’ll return to Brighton again sometime in the future – there is lots to see!
Again, I can’t be sure what my friend miss Lucy is wearing but she’ll be posting up her Brighton pictures very soon, so keep an eye out on her blog if you’re interested.

The Pier
Our next stop was the pier, and the weather just got worse and worse (along with my poor hair!). So, it was lucky that I had put on my new Orla Kiely coat to keep me warm – bought at their sample sale a few days earlier. I bought it for the same price as a Topshop coat might be, and it’s ever so warm. I’ve told myself that my coat collection is definitely too large now, so as a new one appears..one must go (i’m thinking of selling the ever-popular Topshop sailor coat as I don’t get much wear out of it at all? Anyone interested?).
I love wearing this mustard colour – it’s not a bright yellow, but has that 60s/70s vibe that i’m so into at the moment and matches so perfectly with browns. Anyway, the last picture really sums up our time on the pier – getting drenched through but making the most of our time there anyway, like typical British people.

Milkshake & Fries
After our little stint on the pier, we had to find somewhere to dry-off and refuel..which brought us to JBs Diner, recommended to me by Sarah on Twitter. Lucy, who dried her hair off under the hand drier, ordered a huge milkshake, whilst I enjoyed some cheesy fries (my favourite!). It was really quiet in there but the atmosphere was still great, with Lucy & I bopping and singing along to 50s music.
I can’t wait to return to Brighton again on a nicer day – does anybody have any tips?! x

Yay you found the diner! I’m jealous now, that was probably the best milkshake I’ve had outside of America. Nom. I LOVE your coat too, you look very 60s!
You’ve made me nostalgic for Brighton now! Must prod my friends who live there and order them to put me up for a weekend.
How much would you sell the coat for?
these pictures look fab… you make brighton look like barcelona… and then america! x
Pictures are stunning, and looks like you had a great time, despite the miserable weather! I’ve never been to Brighton either, but it looks gorgeous, very retro!
x
i just sold my topshop sailor coat on ebay – it sold for £100! given that i bought it for £70, that was a bit of a triumph! apparently they are still very sought after.
as for brighton, i’m sorry the weather didn’t treat you well. the lanes are so brilliant for vintage shopping. next time though, eh.
x
Oh, love that coat! So very 60s. What a brilliant find. Glad you had fun despite the weather; Brighton is a great place x
That coat is sooo beautiful, I love the colour. And I’m so in need of a warm coat for winter myself… Brighton looks gorgeous too; I’m enjoying the pictures of you and your friend touring around!
you had cheesy chips at a time that wasn’t three in the morning?! crazy girl! or maybe that’s just what i do… oh, i love brighton (: there’s a shop on the north laines that you access via a little turnstile that’s absolutely amazing, it does clothing, antiques, furniture… xo
you are thinking of ‘Snoopers Paradise’ in Kensington Gardens……
Your photos are wonderful.
I live in Brisbane (Australia) and am planning to study in England for a semester next year. Everytime you post about different places I end up adding it to my list of ‘Must Sees’. The list is getting ridiculously long but Brighton just went to the top; thank you for the show and tell.
I also envy your ability to wear yellow. This coat is gorgeous and quite rightly, highly coveted.
what a cute coat ! that color suits you so well !
The majority of men meet with failure because of their own lack of persistence in building fresh ideas to take the spot of those which are unsuccessful
Love the second pic!
Great photos. Looks like you had fun but good Lord it looks cold!
You girls look really retro! And the café it’s lovely.
xx
If you were selling the Topshop coat I would DEFINATELY give it a think!
As for what to do in Brighton, as a resident I would recommend Yo Sushi! for good eating. I go there so often that the waiter puts me in my ‘favourite seat’:P
Dirty Harry is always worth a visit and of course Beyond Retro if you can find it! Did you go to Snoopers Paradise? Oh, and there’s a made to measure dress shop (I can’t for the life of me remember the name) that I always go into just to look. I once was staying in a hostel in Vienna and I saw a woman wearing one of their very distinctive fabrics. She looked so suprised when I asked if it was from a shop in Brighton!!

Great photos! Seems like like you two had a great day, even though the weather was horrible. I really like both your outfits!
I remembered the name of the shop! It’s called Get Cutie
These shots are absolutely gorgeous! You look amazing!
Brighton looks great, you MUST take me with you next time! I love your coat and I totally love the picture of you on the pier – your Mummy needs a copy – please! xxxxx
I love Lucy’s outfit, OMG !
and your coat is perfect
See U !
I absolutely love Brighton! I lived there for a very short while, and it is just fantastic.
As for tips, hit the lanes & you can’t go wrong!
xoxo.
Oh carrie, i love the photo of you on the pier! you look so happy even in the rain
Where did your friend get those wonderful eyeglasses?
Beyond Retro is fabulous for a huge range of vintage clothes – it’s basically a warehouse tucked into one of the side streets off North Road – once you hit Wagamama’s keep walking down, and turn left after Bill’s Cafe. It’s definitely worth trying to find. Just the Laines in general are brilliant, there’s such a wide variety of shops. Better luck with the weather next time, too, and take care. (Also, love your coat so much) x
