When I came up with the name for the blog, I was imagining that I’d be posting a lot of wants and wishes here, after all, that’s what the internet is for, right? Finding and consequently drooling over things you’ll probably never afford. The above ‘books’ are just one of those wishes, and something I could never afford.
Costing a whopping €1087, these Olympia Le-Tan book clutches are far, far out of reach, but they’ve got me really inspired. I don’t know if I’ve told you, but I used to study English Literature and thoroughly enjoyed reading the classics, so why not carry around my bits and bobs in them too? I smell a DIY coming on..an old book, some liberty print fabric, and a lot of cutting and embroidery later..I’ll probably come up with something far far less beautiful, but it’s worth a try, right? Even if it’s only stable enough to keep my secrets in. I’ll let you know if I ever get the time to start on it!
See You Tomorrow! x

These look lovely, such a brilliant idea and so beautiful looking! Can’t believe how much they are though. I hope you do a DYIY, I’m sure it would look lovely =)
Hannah xx
This is such a great idea! For my art exam I hollowed out books and used them to hold my stuff, these have reminded me to actually use them again!
From Carys of La Ville Inconnue
Go forth and DIY as these are fab… but seriously 1087 euros is an incredible amount of money to spend! I saw a girl in Berlin that had hollowed out a book and was using it to store her ipad in – genius idea! Looks cool and saves on buying a case! Happy New Year! x
Absolutely beautiful xxx
As a book nerd, I loooove these! I’m partial to the Lolita one, even though it’s not as “fun” as the other designs. I remember picking up the book in high school. On the cover, there was a quote from Vanity Fair that said that Lolita was the “greatest love story ever told.” Not sure if I would call it a “love story,” but it caught my attention!
I would love the Lolita one!!
velvet cupcakes
Wow, these are amazing! Can’t wait to see your version! x
as a trainee English Teacher and lifelong bookish type – these. are. drool. worthy. ck
x
They’re lovely!!!
Maybe it’s an idea for some artcraft(!?)
i’d adore to see a diy of this because of how unusual it would be to make a bag from a book! xx
I think i made something like this when I was 9, but as a secret book of sorts that you keep in your bookshelf – they were all the rage
Kate Spade has book clutches too…although the ones you posted are better, I think. Anyhow, they are definitely less expensive and I believe there are a few designs: http://www.katespade.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4339739
If you do create your own, please post your results. I’m sure it will be fab!
Oh my gosh, I’m in LOVE. What a brilliant idea – wish I’d come up with it! Oh man. May try a bit of DIY myself… x
Wow, these are adorable Carrie. I’m sure you would have so much fun making your own version of the clutch, especially choosing a title that you really love and that suits your personality. Oh it will be just beautiful!
Ale
Love these book purses!
XOXO,

As a complete bookworm these have almost magnetic appeal! Especially as I tried to make something similar and ended up with a semi-acceptable Blue Peter type end result!
*Want*
Jem xXx
LOVE love LOVE blogging about it
omgsh it’s soo gorgeous!
So is that how your blog name came to be? It’s really creative and nice

oh they are beautiful, but so so expensive! A DIY sounds good, I bet it COULD look better because it would be unique:D
xx Carina
This is so beautiful! Good luck with the DIY
thats a great idea! hope you do it and show us (:
when a saw the frankie magazine – daily journal you postet the other day, i wanted it so bad. unfortunatly, i cant afordt it. So i made myself a look-a-like with an old notebook, some textile and some drawings! worked just great. exept that it wasn’t pretty as the original (:
I was thinking a DIY project as soon as I saw these.
I’ve been lusting after these for a while, aren’t they lovely. It would also be great to hollow out an old book, but I couldn’t do it because I would feel horribly guilty.
I’ve done it with old readers digest books before..they weren’t particularly pretty or loved so I made them into something a lot nicer, guilt free! haha x
Brilliant idea! They’re so lovely!
I like the heart is a lonely hunter one
Ooh, I’d love to see a DIY book clutch. In principle it shouldn’t be too difficult – hollowing out the book would probably be the most tricky part, but lining it and adding a clasp should be easy (ish!). The trick is to keep the cost of the DIY under 1000 euros – yikes! xx
They’re really stunning, i told about it some times ago (http://eightbiscuits.blogspot.com/2010/12/looks-like-book-but-isnt-book-olympia.html) and oh, why do they’re so so so expensive? sigh ;_;
These are fantastic, really pretty. If you do a DIY, you must post the result!!
oh my god. im in love. what lovely bags. i absolutly love them. would be unreal if you do a little diy and create one yourself, dont think i would be capable of that, but im sure there are many that are. thank you for sharing!
I loved this clutch from the first time I saw it! I don’t think it would be a difficult DIY,if I hind an old hardcover book I’ll give it a try for sure!!
these are simply adorable! def. bookmarking. DIY, yes – if only i was crafty! if you attempt it i’d love to read a how-to
happy fridayyy
ah! i did a post on these too
they are so beautiful, & they inspired me to make my own too! cant wait to see how yours turns out, i’m going to give it a go as well!
x
Oh my.. I would love, love, love to own one! :/
It’s a pity that I’m not good in DIY. Hope
you’re going strong.
xx, Alice :*
You need to do a DIY for one of these. Really. They cost too much and we all need one! x
[...] chicer incarnation of such behaviour, when I saw these brilliant Olympia Le-Tan book clutches on Wish Wish Wish today. I’d like an F Scott Fitzgerald version for maximum [...]
Oh my, those books are amazing! I’ll certainly do a DIY for one of my favorite book
I have to admit that i was a bit disappointed when I realised that those aren’t real books. *blush* I cannot help it, I’m addicted to them.
I first saw the clutch on Clemence Poesy at the Harry Potter London premiere. Fell in love with it too
So much so I too did a blog post about it (http://wishing-for-chanel.blogspot.com/2010/12/wishlist-item_15.html)
I like the idea of doing it yourself, I know mine would just end in tears though lol
xoxo
That’s right, those clutches are so original, and adorable ! I thought i would make one too, so will you give advices if you do ? so that I know if I’d rather wait or do it now !
love, love, love !
Manon.
Oh my Carrie, I’m scared we may have the same brainwaves! Haha. I bought some old hardbacks last week that I’m attempting to hollow out and cover with fabric! I was trying to decide which books to choose and wasn’t sure if lolita was a total ‘idea steal’ haha. do it too! x
Hello, im french , ( Sorry i dont speak english very well :/ )

i’ve been in love with these since i saw celemence poesy carried the beauty and beast one at the harry potter premiere! a little expensive though, so a diy version is definitely called for!!

Wow, I never thought of getting book covers before, but I wish they weren’t so expensive!
Love this idea! *sigh* One can only dream of the funds to make it reality!

I once made a treasure box out of three books from a charity shops. It required a lot of Wilko’s cheap stanley knives, time and glue but so worth it! I use it as a jewellery box now. I think the book bag could definitely be done!
R x
I say yes for a tutorial !
That really is a good DIY project, but I’d probably only get half-way throw and give up. I’m no crafter. But, ha;f way through could mean a really pretty, and perfectly geeky jewelry box. I’ve been looking for one that will fit my personality for a while— the one I received when I was 10 just isn’t cutting it anymore.
