Skate

Just before I spilt hot chocolate down my vintage coat…

Okay, so I promised myself I wouldn’t start with the Christmassy posts for a while yet, but then I took a little break from work to go ice skating at Somerset House with Lucy and Katie, and started feeling completely in the spirit!

I hadn’t been ice skating in over 5 years, and remember being alright at it. Not anymore, it turns out! I tried to speed up a little but not falling on my bum was my number 1 priority. Despite it being romantic, and looking pretty cool when you know how to do it properly, I can’t say ice skating is really for me. It’s all a bit achey, and I can’t say I agree with any form of exercise being sold as fun! Still, I wasn’t a complete Scrooge and wore my pale tights and skater skirt to get in the spirit of things.

My beautiful coat was a charity shop find. It originally came with a fur collar, which I don’t feel comfortable wearing myself, so unpicked it and stitched on this less-attractive stole – the upside being it didn’t used to be a little furry friend! So after all that work, what did I end up doing? Spilling my Tiffany & Co hot chocolate all down the front! Typical.

And yes, you read that right, Tiffany hot chocolate. They have a beautiful pop-up store just beside the ice rink, selling a selection of their jewellery plus lots of yummy treats (which I was clearly more interested in!).

I might leave it another 5 years before I go skating again, *bah humbug*, but I’ll happily stand by the side sipping my hot chocolate and soaking up the festive atmosphere.

Now to start my Christmas shopping..! x

I have to agree with you – the Tiffany hot chocolate is the best part about skating at Somerset House! Still, it’s picturesque and Christmassy even without putting those horrid skates on!

Pretty, pretty, pretty!! I LOVE these pictures, I’m the same when it comes to icseskating, it basically involves me falling down a lot! Hope the stain comes out, the coat is so beautiful! XX

Well what can I say Carrie, I’ve been “ooooh-ing” for all the time I’ve been reading this post! Now all I want is to grab my pale opaque tights and go falling on my bum on the ice!
Poor coat ;D Hope you found a way to save it!

These photos are the most gorgeous things I’ve seen in a while, I feel ridiculously festive to the point that it’s making me sad that I’ve got so long to wait before I can get appropriately stuck in! I wish I could ice-skate, it looks so lovely, but honestly, I can’t let go of the sides without going on my bum. Great coat!

That coat is such an amazing find and your shoes and skirt are a perfect match. I love the photos of all the candies and decorations, I’m starting to get in a christmassy mood myself. How great is the fact that many girls seemed to opt for a short skirt for ice skating?

I love Somerset House, it always puts me in the mood for Xmas.
One reason I love reading this blog is the amazing photos. You must have an amazing camera because the photos are always so clear and beautifully taken. Thank You, some blogs I’m squinting at the screen wondering what on earth the blogger has taken a photo of.
Thanks, and hope you had lots of fun ๐Ÿ™‚

I LONG to go ice-skating! It’s so festive and romantic. The one at Tower Hill is a particular favourite of mine. But my boyfriend refuses to come with me as he is scared of breaking a leg or another limb. Never Mind! xxx

I am going ice skating on Thursday and I know I’ll be a disaster, because I can’t really do it properly with fear of falling on my bum! Anyway I will try at least!
Your pictures are lovely and you look gorgeous as usual ๐Ÿ˜‰

Love the post! Shame those brogues have sold out, I was on it like a gin and tonic when I saw them. BTW come down to Brighton, in the evening the Pavillion is lit up blue and there is a skating rink in front of it and a pop up restaurant, it looks like fairy land!

    Your outfit looks super cute!

I do have a question about you not wearing fur though. How is that not any different from wearing leather?
I try to be conscious of these things myself, but I see no harm in vintage fur. A brand new leather bag, on the other hand, contributes to the industry. Not judging, just wondering.

    • Carrie Reply

No that’s a perfectly sensible question. I suppose that I do have double standards, in the way that I eat certain types of meat, but not game, deer, rabbits, or veal. But leather is a by product of meat that I do eat. It’s not that I have strong feelings or opinions on wearing fur, it’s just something I personally don’t feel comfortable wearing, justified or not. : )

I am in love with your mustard coloured brogues! So gorgeous, as is the rest of your outfit. Sometimes I wish it got cold enough in Australia to wear nice big coats. In saying that it is actually horrible cold rainy weather at the moment so I might get my wish! xx

I’ve just been reading back through all your old posts and I knew I had to comment on this when I read that ice skating isn’t your thing and that you’ll stick to the hot chocolate – that’s exactly what my boyfriend said about skiing when we tried to teach him this past winter (actually, he suggested he find a pair of snowshoes for a sport with less acceleration). I’m not one for ice skating, either – it sounds so nice in theory, but all I manage to do is fall on my butt every time I try. Not to mention, one of my best friends is an ice hockey goalie, so she skates circles around us all.

I’ve loved your blog for ages, although I don’t think I’ve ever commented!
