Red, Blue, Black, Green…
I’ll start off by explaining the odd allusions to, erm, eating my berets. My housemate Lucy has always referred to them as pancakes, and piled up together like that, I can see what she means. It began when I told her the story of my beret flying off in the the wind and rolling down the street on it’s side, my knight in shining armour Miguel running after it. Allegedly like a childen’s story about a runaway pancake. So that explains that silliness, topped off with a bit of maple syrup. Mmm.
I thought it was about time I dedicated a post to the greatness that is the beret. If you’ve been reading for a few years, you’ll have seen my collection steadily rising. It started with a red one on eBay, followed by the blue, then the green as a Christmas present. I’m the kind of person that doesn’t feel dressed without a hat (or large hair..!), so having plenty of colours to choose from is essential. I think compulsion to buy a beret in every colour stems from having quite thin, flat hair that retains zero volume, so popping one on adds a bit of shape.
I’m forever asked (sometimes by random strangers!) how they stay on my head. Now, I have no real answer for this, except, perhaps I have a strange shaped head?! I just take the beret from below, and stretch it over the back of my head, like in the picture below. Easy peasy, and it stays on all day long – except from the ‘runaway pancake’ incident.
Next on my beret shopping list is mint green, cream, pale pink and a pale blue, too. You can never have too many, right?! x

Love the pancake idea! Saw the feature on you in Company and really enjoyed it. Stick with the huge heels!
These are so cute, I love the leopard print one, berets are so easy to wear and style. Love the photos as well

I was given a pink Sonia Rykiel beret and really struggled with how and where to wear it but you’ve definitely encouraged me to just put it on when I pop out to uni or the shops etc. I love these photos with them on the plate but would kill for some pancakes right now

They tempt me to try a beret out next time I see one! Although I have to say-you must have had steady hands with that maple syrup-nobody wants a sticky head! xx
I love these pictures they are so funny and artistic at the same time. I love the quality of your pictures too. Very creative.

that’s a pretty large collection, I like the camel one most.
Perhaps the sales will offer me a pretty one.
I never bought a beret, weird because I own these many bonnets
Mint green is a perfect choice, aren’t there local stores in london who sale berets? In Tel Aviv the streets were crowded with little stores full of berets
You’re so cute. x
haha such funny photos! love your berets
I’m a hat person through and through. It’s simple, I wear a hat, because I believe it brightens up every outfit. I’ve got winter ones, sort of berets, grey ones multi coloured ones, bear ones. And I have a thing for scarves too. It seems wherever I go, i like to have a cosy scarf on, kind of like protection I guess ;D great blog post
omg what a cute post!!!beret is very simple but really great item:)

This post reminds me of a children’s book I loved, Caps for Sale.

The peddler in the book had a towering stack of different colored caps, just like in these pictures.
Oh so adorable! I remember that book! Thanks for sharing this
Hahahahaha, I never thought about the pancakes look-alike, but it’s true, I piled them that way too, and I love them!
I also wear them because of my hair, but mostly because I have to many white hairs, so I cover them with hats.
wow!! love these photos!!!! so cool! loved your leopard beret!!!
you look really great in them!
greetings from germany, geisslein
Your head looks like it was made to wear berets all the time
Now I need to find mine!
HAHAHAHAHAHA. Laughed so hard at the one with the knife and fork and the one with the syrup. So great. And the last picture is probably my fave. So gorgeous! Your eyes are lovely!
I love berets ~ they’re so fun to wear, but I always find they start to get really itchy after a while. Do you ever experience that problem sometimes?
Oh berets are fantastic things. I need to knit some more, tbh.
I adore that leopard print one! =D
I wish I could wear a beret! My head is weird.

What a lovely collection! I still haven’t quite figured out how to wear hats but they look great on you.
It has been quite amazing seeing your collection grow since I’ve started reading your blog. I have a few berets of my own, and I must say I do indeed share the same love for them as you do.
I love the photos especially the berets in midair and stacked on a plate. It’s a cute concept. And the story you shared with your housemate is also adorable.

Every time I see you in a beret (which is a lot, of course!) I end up googling berets but then back out at the last minute, one day perhaps…
Lovely pictures. I especially liked the ones where they are not berets but rather pancakes. Creative and fitting.
You look lovely! I’ve never worn a beret before, but after seeing this post, I might have to try one out. LOVE the pancake reference…yum

You look lovely… I also like beret… Photos are great.
Do you wear them indoors as well? I love a beret. As soon as it gets cold enough I start wearing them.
Btw, you mention thin flat hair, any beauty tips? My hair is very thin, flat and so knotty that backcombing has become an absolute no-no.

PS block heels rock.

Adorable photos!
Do you have any recommendations for certain brands you prefer?
There are a lot of ‘bad’ berets out there and they don’t all keep their lovely shape
Berets really are your trademark, I couldn’t imagine you not wearing them! My favourite ones are the really colourful ones.
you look so beautiful in all of your berets, i love the pancake idea too, so cute and creative
beautiful pictures in this post! I’m a beret loving girl as well, I can’t go out without one during the colder months!
