At The Florist

Comfy?

I’m back outside the Liberty Florists again! I knew I’d have outfit shots here before long, Lucy and I were wandering past…the light was going and we were inspired to take a few snaps.

My outfit looks super comfortable, right? You’d think so, it’s the cosy jumper that gives that impression (and cosy it is!), but it was the bottom half that let me down. I found these Opening Ceremony shoes on eBay for a bargainous price after admiring Sandra’s styling of them over the past year or so. And it seems I subliminally dressed with her as my inspiration too! What Sandra hadn’t mentioned is how uncomfortable they are! It’s a sad thing to find out a pair of shoes you’ve been lusting after are practically unwearable…after walking to the end of Oxford Street, my saviour Lucy offered to swap shoes. This gave my outfit an altogether different look, as I found myself in platform Converse-style trainers that were a size too big!

For the millionth time, I learnt my lesson; don’t wear heels! It’s never worth it! Next time I put these laced-up beauties on my feet, I’ll make sure it’s for sitting down and not wandering the streets of London. But then I also said I’d never drink again after it made me sick the first time around…oops.

Any tips for training your feet in to wearing heels, ladies?! x

Woah, that’s a really amazing outfit. From head to toe. Sad to hear you didn’t feel comfortable in your shoes though. It’s the worst pain when you know you’ll be stuck in them the whole day… And especially since you love them so dearly. What about your lovely Chloé’s? Are they at least comfy?

I’m super sorry to bother you like this but I recently opened my very own blog. Would you mind checking it out and maybe give some tips? You’re always an inspirations <3

I love the outfit, as always, but what I am really noticing is how fantastic your bangs look! I am always amazed at how such a simple fringe can really make such a difference – yours look lovely!

That is so disappointing – they look like would be comfy!
I have the same problem with a pair of ballet flats. Of all shoes, ballet flats!

    • Carrie - Reply

Strangely enough, I wore a new pair of flats the other day and they completely cut up the back of my feet, it felt worse than any heels! Maybe now I can see why Uggs are so popular…

      • Taylor - Reply

haha popular but also hideous. No one back home (I’m Australian) wears Uggs; if they do they are strictly ‘home-wear’ and are likely to be cheap knock-offs. I’m convinced they are made purely for export since everyone over here seems to own a pair.

Well they are very easy on the eye if they aren’t so easy on the feet.

I love the liberty flower shop maybe I will visit there this weekend.

And I can’t stop looking at you hair it looks amazing, loving the fringe!

I think that with the new hairstyle you began to look older. But this is not bad, you look really beautiful and gorgeous!

The shoes really look comofortable, so sad that they are not. normally a plateau is a good help to survive a day in heels. If it’s the ball of the foot that’s hurting, they have these silicon pads that you can put in the shoe to soften every step and that are almost invisible. They always gave me some extra hours on high heels. Btw, your new hair looks great with the beret!

It’s a shame they’re so uncomfortable for you – they look so good with your outfit here! The way I trained myself to walk in heels is to wear them to the movies or long dinners – basically places where I would be sitting the majority of the time and wouldn’t have to do a lot of walking, and I slowly built up a tolerance for them! Of course, I’m sure in London you do way more walking than I do in Dallas, so maybe just wear them to your friend’s houses so you can take them off when you want? Idk, good luck with them! They look adorable (and comfortable… actually! how unfortunate that they aren’t)

I love your new haircut-gorgeous! I rarely wear heels now for this very reason (I’m always walking here and there) and have probably forgotten how to walk in them! xx

You look so gorgeous! Your hair just suits you so much like this. Love this outfit, the shoes are so cool – shame you can’t wear them for long, but at least they’ll always be there for predominantly seated events! x

I’m in love with your pictures. ALWAYS. AHHHH. They make me go crazy because they’re so beautiful. And youuuuu are beautiful. Wow. Love the new(ish) hair! I don’t remember if I said this but I got bangs about a month ago and loved them! Unfortunately they are already too long. :(

That’s too bad! They look really cute on you…I’m the worst with heels as well. I always end up reaching for my brogues and low-heeled ankles boots. I just can’t be bothered!

Love the new hair, and the floral setting though.

I’m still getting used to your new hair do Carrie! You look beautiful all the same thhough! Oh if only I had some miraculous tips on how to wear heels; i still loathe the pain they cause.

I agree with the others, your hair is fab! It’s getting harder and harder to keep growing mine out ;)
I haven’t quite found the secret to heels yet, though insoles help. Some shoes are just not feet-friendly! <3

It’s sad about the shoes ~ even though really comfortable in the photos. I generally am a creature of comfort and stick to comfy shoes (I only have 16 pairs, I’m not really a shoe person) but on the rare occasion I go out in my heeled brogues I always carry a pair of flats.

For me, it’s really all about practice! The first time I wore heels, I swear something broke down there… so I decided to break down my heel-wearing time and slowly build it up (:

I’d always break out a new pair of heels at home for a week or two first, before wearing it out. I find that that helps too!

But I guess most importantly, you gotta find heels that are comfortable. I swear, they do exist!

Those shoes are truly beautiful, it’s a shame they are that painfull. I always have the same problem with heels. After a day wearing a pair of those I always say “I’ll never wear heels again” but the next day I’m doing the same. What can I do?

  19. Annalise - Reply

It’s too bad that those shoes hurt because they are super cute! What a pretty setting too. Floral shops are so pretty and they always smell so good. I love green houses too.

DON’T WEAR HEELS! They alter your posture and shorten your achilles tendon. They force your pelvis to tilt forward and cause stress to your spine. They force all of your weight to the balls of your feet and wear out the fat there that is precious cushioning to the bones in your foot. They cause balance issues. They are damaging and bad and not really that pretty when you consider that they are also sexist.

Your outfit is so lovely, especially your skirt!
It could be that you’re buying heels that are a half a size too small? If not, then maybe you’re just not fit for wearing heels…such a bummer, as those wedges are beauties. I would LOVE to have that pair, I’ve been lusting after them forever.

    Hello Carrie,
When I saw your post, I thought: “how brave she is to wonder around London in these shoes !”
The truth is, I tried the very same model in a shop a while ago and only remember how painful they were.

If you want to invest in a very comfortable pair of high heels I strongly suggest the brand Chie Mihara. She has a range of shoes, sandals and boots with a hidden platform which makes them a heaven to wear !
Next time you’re in Soho go and try a pair in John Lewis !
(I usually buy mine online or on ebay though)

*I promise I am not working for this brand at all ! I just love the shoes so much !*

Those shoes look lovely but personally I just don’t get on with heels at all. I have the grace of a newborn gazel and that’s on a good day! I would like to try to learn to walk properly as I think there are so many outfits and trends that look better when worn with a heel, but most of the time I just end up in pain, on the floor or both! Doesn’t stop me collecting old pairs from my nan though : )

  25. Natalia - Reply

There are two kind of heels, comfy ones and un-comfy ones, some are a dream to walk in, and some are, sadly, a pain no matter how pretty they are.
I’d say wedges are the most comfortable ones, but then again these are wedges, but most probably they are too hard on the insole part. Also shoes with platform are often the most comfy due to you not having you feet in direct contact with the floor, but in my experience you have to wear them a lot inside your house so your feet get used to them a little.

Either way, you look beautiful! <3

Ah this outfit is awesome, the florist at liberty is definitely an awesome place for your outfit shots! I’m awful when it comes to heels too and I wear converse and flats almost every day! I admire heels but own very few. I’ve packed a pair of heeled boots for my trip to HK and I know I’ll wear them only occasionally but it’s nice to have the option! Would have loved to have seen you in Lucy’s platform converse, they sound amazing!

Tips? Don’t wear them if you’re going to walk! I often wear mine not to go shopping in town (which means a lot of tanding up) but for work (I take a bus and then sit down all day) or to go to the cinema or eat out.

Anything that involves more than 15 minutes of walking is a no-no.

    Good luck!

I seriously can NOT walk in London in heels. Other cities are better, but the uneven pavements make it too dangerous & uncomfortable for me. I usually wear flats and carry heels in my bag to wear at my destination. Not glamorous, I admit. But certainly more classy than a broken ankle ;-)

Lovely outfit! I do not wear very high heeled-shoes, I think my highest for everyday measure about 3inches. I used to have hurting feet, no matter how low the heel was (even on 2inch heels!) until i started to put those little “ball of foot cushions” in them. I am in between sizes anyways so they make my shoes the perfect size AND they make wearing them SO much more comfortable. I can seriously walk in my heels all day, before I put those cushions in I had hurting feet after walking 10 minutes! Give them a try!

I wear heels at work for 9 hours at a time – it’s a requirement not a choice! So it’s definitely possible to train yourself although I wouldn’t recommend it as bunions and callouses are a result. However, it seems you’re already doing one thing to make life a little easier for yourself: choosing a wedge over a stiletto! xx

  31. Gema - Reply

Loving how your hair looks still! Really is lovely. And those heels are beauts!
I always stick to my wedges, they’re so much more comfortable. Sad to say I have a few pairs of heels I just cannot wear due to the pain, they may be stunning, but the pain is not worth it!

I can fully appreciate your new hairdo, seeing you in your proper clothes really gives it a new twist, I adore it! With regards to the shoes, is it just a case of them needing to be broken into? I am completely hopeless when it comes to heels! X

Really love your new cut! I’m trying to decide whether to get the chop myself at the mo. eeek it’s so hard as I love having long hair but I’m really feeling a change. Your shoes are so nice. I suggest that you persevere with them as they will get better in time. It’s like a new pair of boots! Definitely made a good choice with wedges though. I can walk fine in wedges, but put me in a pair of stilettos and I look like I am lunging everywhere… xxx

The only way to train your feet for heels is to practise. Start low and wear them around the house. Gradually increase the height and how long you wear them for. And voila! Heel-wearing.
Some shoes will just always be uncomfortable though. Look for ones with a nice, squishy insole. Beware of awkward stitching over the ball of your foot (if the decoration means rough stitching inside over the joint it’ll rub like nobody’s business). With high-heeled boots, I usually an extra pair of socks inside them and that makes a lot of different.

Lovely outfit, you look great and I love the colour combination. Heels are a nightmare because they look so pretty and make legs look longer but are so painful. In closed toe heels I put lots of insoles in and the ‘party feet’ heel soles in the front of them, and then break them in slowly by walking down the road to the shop or the pub and then work up to wearing them for longer. Good luck! xx

I can’t get over how amazing your new hair is, it really really suits you, and makes me want to go down the fringe route again <3 I never learn my lesson with heels either, and regret it 10 minutes after leaving the house.. xx

I love this look- your bangs and beret are so cute. :) I’ve found that my poor memory is a great aid in overcoming the discomfort of high heels. Some shoes pinch and pain but a month later, the memory has softened and I convince myself it wasn’t that bad. (It always was that bad, of course!)

I wish I had mastered the art of walking in heels for hours… but it seems just so impossible! I often find myself planning my day around the shoes I’m wearing, just so my feet don’t have to hurt too much. ;)
I love the outfit you’re wearing and, obviously, the background is just stunning as well.

Ahh the heels problem! To be honest I only ever wear small heels (2 inches maximum), and only when my other shoes really don’t match my outfit/for special occasions/when I can sit a lot ;) But never to walk around the city, that’s for sure! And even though sometimes shoes with higher heels look really beautiful I don’t think I’ll ever wear them, I’d end up walking like a wooden toy in them, while you can look very elegant with just a small heel :) Though the cussion idea I read here is a good one, guess I’ll try them out in my heels too!

Too bad about the heels because they are amazing! Love the colour, they suit you so very well. Very nice combined with the skirt, I think this is one of my favourite outfits on your blog :)

Oh wow, I love everything about this post. Your coat, your amazing skirt with those shoes, the flowers, the colours… this is so, so pretty.

And that lovely grey jumper is the exact thing I’ve been looking for – too bad UK Urban Outfitters don’t ship to New Zealand!

I’ve come to the sad conclusion that unless I’m willing to spend an obscene amount on a pair of heels, there’s really no way I’ll be able to actually wear them and walk places. I wear all my heels at the office, and sometimes take a pair with me to the mall (I switch the flats I wore to get there, then switch back when I leave). Too bad they’re painful though, they’re so cute!
