Initials

I promised a post full of bags, and here you have it, in all their monogrammed goodness! I’ll admit, I didn’t know a great deal about Bottega Veneta before their kind invitation to Milan – after a quick Google I’d thought that their most recent colour palette and grown-up aesthetic wasn’t my bag (pardon the pun!), but there was something about their latest project, entitled ‘Initials’ that piqued my interest. I’m forever wishing I was back at school, when I’d have pencils with my name on them, or even jumpers with my initials scribbled on the label..having your identity imprinted on your designer handbag seems to be the very grown-up version of this nostalgic tradition.

Bottega’s Initials project allows you to customise your intrecciato bag, belt, wallet, purse, ipad case (you name it!) with your initials – something rather bold for a company that doesn’t even use it’s own logo on their classic products. You can pick from a variety or colours and sizes -  this might be something you’d consider easy, but when faced with the small tote bag with red lettering vs the large with the yellow lettering, it becomes a difficult task. I mocked up my options on the website before ordering the bag you see above – the yellow lettering reminding me of gold, and the large open shape being unlike anything else I own. The perfect size for a shopping trip or a day at the beach, I thought.

And voila! It’s been on a few journeys already, and each time I’ve wondered whether the person opposite on the tube might be trying to guess my name.

Thank you to Ykone and Bottega Veneta for a wonderful trip.

P.S Yes! Those are the shoes – I’ll introduce them in another post! x

I love my initials as they stand for Royal Shakespeare Company as well as my name – or is that too geeky to admit? The bag is lovely, just need the weather to behave and then you’ll be able to take it to the beach! xxx

Ahh amazing! I always think my initials are just a sound, they don’t spell anything, so yours are far more interesting! x

The idea of having my initials on a Bottega Veneta bag sure is appealing. Although I am saddened that I can’t quite afford such a luxury as yet.

I’d never have afforded such a luxury, either. I’m forever grateful! x

Great choice, am on the site already and playing around with what my dream bag/purse might look like! Love your dress too and hope the party organisation is going well!

Oh super nice bag, I think I don’t have anything with my initials. My mom used to write my name in my clothes when I went to summer camp haha. By the way, I LOVE your cat shoes!

You look stunning, the initial bag is amazing, my would have three letters, KCB, I think that would look strange, CH looks looks… so classy, is a bit complicated with the letters, some look good some in combination with others not really, oh well as long as yours look good haha.

It is complicated, I agree. So strange how some letters can look so great together and others really don’t! I think KCB is good though! I could have had CAH, including my middle name, but I thought it looked a bit silly, so stuck with CH : )

The bag looks lovely and the initials idea is a nice personal touch. Where did you get your sailor dress from? I love everything nautical!

    • Carrie - Reply

It’s a dress by Lover from quite a few years ago now. I found it on eBay! : )

Ahh, the amazing eBay! I’ll keep my eyes peeled for another one. I picked up the Topshop sailor coat on eBay last year and I live in it.

Congratulations on Wish magazine! I hope it’s coming to Wales soon!

I actually thought this was a Carolina Herrera item but then read the post. So you know your initials are going head to head with a great label :p Can’t believe your luck, such a great thing that they offered you this gift (though I’m a bit jealous, I’m also glad someone gets to enjoy these perks)!

Those shoes are amazingly cute! Hadn’t noticed they were cats til I looked twice. And I’ve not seen monogrammed bags since I had my green LL Bean backpack 15 years ago with, strangely enough, the initials RED. Kinda makes me feel old to see they’re making a comeback, but pleased all the same. :)

My initials are KIM so everyone would think that was my name, or if I had with my married name it would be KIL so not much luck there. Love your nautical outfit x

oh the bag looks wonderful! I don’t know too much about bottega veneta, I just know that I love the pattern of their bags, this up and down, I don’t know how it is called in english, in german it’s “geflochten/gewebt” I’d say… I just wouldn’t have chosen white, I once had a white bag that I really loved, but also if I payed really much attention to not put it on the floor etc. there were some unremovable stamps quite soon on the leater… such a pity.. But perhaps you are better than me in that!

    xxx Anita

oh and p.s. I loooooove these shoes!

Oh Carrie, you managed to make that bag look so wonderful… AS ALWAYS. You seem to pick exactly the right colours when there’s a change to ‘customize’ colours to you own taste. It’s some kind of wonderful, and it seems you had a great trip to Milan!
