Popcorn
This year we were in the US for the Fourth of July, which meant a big pancake breakfast and fireworks out on the road in front of the house. I’m usually a bit of a Scrooge when it comes to fireworks – I don’t care much for standing out in the cold on November 5th, but the US are doing the right thing having their celebrations in the middle of summer, we happily sat out watching the neighbourhood light up with fizz, pops and bangs.
So, whilst I’m a bit late to the U.S lovin’ party..I’ve had almost a week at home to reflect on why I’d happily visit the States again and again. First would have to be the food – I may have gained a couple lbs on my visit, but not without good, buttery, syrupy reason. Then of course there was the weather, both a blessing and a curse (evenings in the pool vs a red nose and headaches), but any weather granting the ability to wear a simple sun dress is good enough for me. And something rather unique to my situation, I get to visit a bit of a menagerie when I arrive at my family’s house, and this time there were puppies! They may have spent their every waking moment attempting to steal my undergarments/socks/shoes..well…you name it…but who could resist those fluffy little faces? Can you guess their breed?
In the UK, you grow up watching American television shows and films, so to be there is always a bit of a dream – I have an amazing time simply walking around the supermarket pointing out things I’d heard of but never eaten (I tried my first meatloaf this year!) and listening to the accents.
I’m already anticipating my next trip – and crossing my fingers for New York! x

Cutest photos! I love the look too – reminds me of the 1950′s style!
I may be a cat person, but I can’t deny those puppies are adorable.
That dress is amazing! And as always, I love the styling you do in the photos. It’s magical
beautiful picture!!! so joyful
I’m here for the puppies

I love your dress!
Glad you enjoyed your time in the U.S. You HAVE to visit San Francisco – it’s an absolutely gorgeous city!
Wonderful pics as always.
I love every picture and the puppies are so adorable! Aaah :3
Those puppies are too cute! I’m glad you had a nice visit to the states; to be honest when I lived abroad I found myself SERIOUSLY missing/craving pancakes even though I don’t eat them much at home (unless I go to a diner.) They’re just one of those things… You definitely have to come to New York!
PS what did you think of meatloaf?
Meatloaf was good! It was homemade by a neighbour, I’m not sure if that makes much difference, but it was certainly nicer than I expected! x
They’re Maltese, right? I have a maltese and she looked just like that when she was a puppy! They are so cute! And I love the vintage buggie and your brouges! Perfect! <3

Oh my those shoes are heavenly! This whole post is just gorgeous! The dogs, the pancakes, that lipstick! Absolutely beautiful xxx
PLEASE come to New York! You’ll love it! I can see your outfit posts already in the streets of Manhattan…

Those puppies and that dress is amazing! I’d happily devour those pancakes in a second!
Carrie, I love these pictures! I’ve lived in the US my entire life and never thought much of the Fourth of July because I’m so used to the fireworks and hotdogs and watermelon and what-have-you — it’s great to hear what it’s like from an outsider’s perspective (outsider meaning someone who doesn’t live in the US!). Thank you for your lovely posts whilst visiting the US and helping to remind me what I often take for granted
What festive popcorn! Good call on the puppies by the way; always a plus!
Definitely a handful, but so very cute! I’m also such a big fan of your blog!!! I don’t mean to sound fan girl-ish but you’re my favourite blogger and you’re such an inspiration! :~)
Happens to the rest of the world as well! It’s something we all see in tv, so to actually go to the states must be pretty sweet. Although you know Carrie, the rest of the world feels the same about the UK ahah. Your accents, your foods and all those other tid bits amazes all! I know I would love to visit ^^
OMG, love this photos!! Love the mood!!
I think I spot an IHOP restaurant? As someone else said, I miss pancakes when I am abroad, despite hardly eating them in the states! Haha.
As for the weather, Las Vegas is one of the hottest cities in the U.S. I hope you go somewhere cooler next time! I have memories of visiting Vegas in the summer as a teen and being shocked by the immense heat. You almost feel like you are being baked in an oven! Haha. Now I try to avoid going during the summer, although sometimes it turns out that way.
As someone else mentioned, you have to visit San Francisco! Or even Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. So much to see and do. San Francisco is probably the easiest city to love, due to its architecture. Los Angeles is a little harder to “get” since its so darn massive!
Love the gingham! And of course the puppies

I’m so glad you enjoyed yourself!! I picture the same type of things with my impending trip to Nice, France!
Are those maltese pups by the way? I have a maltese named Scout. <3
Awwwww such cute puppies !! X3 my sister is on a trip right now and my parents and I are taking care of her little poodle, she’s just as adorable ! I have to admit pancakes are one of my favorite things from the US too haha I actually tried them in Canada for the first time, now I make them at home from time to time, always have some mapple syrup ! As for the dress, I’ve been in love with it for months, haven’t decided to get it yet though lol
Haha I feel the same way as you only about England! I grew up watching BBC movies and shows, oh the doctor! Oh masterpiece classic! And British accents? *swoons*
