Popcorn
This year we were in the US for the Fourth of July, which meant a big pancake breakfast and fireworks out on the road in front of the house. I’m usually a bit of a Scrooge when it comes to fireworks – I don’t care much for standing out in the cold on November 5th, but the US are doing the right thing having their celebrations in the middle of summer, we happily sat out watching the neighbourhood light up with fizz, pops and bangs.
So, whilst I’m a bit late to the U.S lovin’ party..I’ve had almost a week at home to reflect on why I’d happily visit the States again and again. First would have to be the food – I may have gained a couple lbs on my visit, but not without good, buttery, syrupy reason. Then of course there was the weather, both a blessing and a curse (evenings in the pool vs a red nose and headaches), but any weather granting the ability to wear a simple sun dress is good enough for me. And something rather unique to my situation, I get to visit a bit of a menagerie when I arrive at my family’s house, and this time there were puppies! They may have spent their every waking moment attempting to steal my undergarments/socks/shoes..well…you name it…but who could resist those fluffy little faces? Can you guess their breed?
In the UK, you grow up watching American television shows and films, so to be there is always a bit of a dream – I have an amazing time simply walking around the supermarket pointing out things I’d heard of but never eaten (I tried my first meatloaf this year!) and listening to the accents.
I’m already anticipating my next trip – and crossing my fingers for New York! x

Oh Carrie! See this post is why you are my fave blogger! The whole set-up is just beyond perfect with the gorge little colour co-ordinated bug in the back ground! That dress is very Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz too, so perfect for hanging out in Vegas! xx
The dress is so pretty! And that popcorn is crazy haha. I know what you mean about how we grow up in the UK and learn so much about random American brands and foods without realising it. I have never been to the US but I’m hopefully going next summer and I’m excited to do stuff like eat Twinkies and Poptarts and sit in an American diner “just like in the movies!” I don’t care about putting on weight either ha. I think it’s unavoidable when in America! x
how gorgeous!! i love your outfit and red lippie!
Carrie…love the pics. Next 4th of July, you should come to Boston. There is nothing like it!
love your style! it’s always perfection:)
That dress is lovely, the little cutouts are the sweetest. Oh gosh those puppies!
Your description of the US sounds a bit like how I felt when I visited London, haha.
I might be tempted to move there just for the pancakes. Wow! Although the thought of actually been able to get my legs out in a sundress holds much appeal too.
Oh so beautiful pictures!! Love them!!
Those puppies are adorable – I love the photos of you cuddling them! I love all of theses posts detailing you Vegas trip. Looking at photos of sunny skies makes me feel a bit better when I look out of the window and grey rainy England.
Is there any update with Wish magazine yet? I’m really looking forward to receiving my copy!

I love the US too
Something almost dreamy about being in a place you see in so many movies. I love your photography, so beautiful – and I’m crossing my fingers for New York too! x
I think often North Americans feel the same when visiting London. I remember the first time I came, feeling overwhelmed… I knew all the street names, song about them, stories set on them, movies, etc. and suddenly I was on them and it was all so different! (They were smaller than their mythical fictional status in my mind).
Nothing beats pancakes and maple syrup, anyway!
looking patriotic from your clothes down to your food
love the pictures! so cute

I know exactly what you mean about the magic of the USA. I was so excited about ridiculous things when I went for the first time last year. I wanted to go to Walmart and Taco Bell. I didn’t get a chance to go to either but I did discover the wonders of Walgreen!

Carrie you’re so gorgeous! I’d love to be in the US for the 4th July, it’d be so much fun. I’m glad you had an amazing time! I’m totally gushing over those puppies right now. xxx
I’ve never commented before, but I wanted to let you know that I do read your lovely blog and am so happy to have stumbled upon it. You have excellent style!
Though I’ve never been to the UK, I did get to spend some time in France. How nice to live in Europe…
I was curious about the American foods you’d heard of, but never eaten. Here in the states, the climates vary so dramatically from one area to the other. There are some foodstuffs I’ve only recently discovered/tried. There is such a vast difference from food in the Northeast, Southern food (for which I’m most familiar), and more recently all things spicy and or Tex-Mex/Mexican. (I do think pancakes are the thing that links us all, ha)
I’m quite interested in all things UK. Fish and chips/Sunday Roast/Worcestershire chips or crisps/Tea at Four O’clock/The full English Breakfast. Cliche or true? So many questions.
Bests,
RC
It looks like you ate all the right things, yum popcorn and those pancakes look so good.
The doggies are so adorable!
So happy you felt welcome in our country and had such a great time. You were in probably one of the hottest states we have. We are not all scorching although this summer it has been hot everywhere. I would love to vist England. I think your country is pretty special.
