Viva Las Vegas

Elvis slept here

The last of my posts from the ‘fabulous’ Las Vegas! On our last day we drove around the city – I was desperate to capture the images that are conjured up in my mind when I think of Vegas. I imagine it in it’s heyday, full of stars, bright lights, glamourous outfits and prosperity. And if you find the time to pull yourself away from the modernised strip, you’ll find the ghost of Vegas past not too far away. Motels advertising ‘Color TV’, one after another on streets without any visitors at all. It’s rather sad to see the empty pools where I imagine 60′s girls once sat around, sipping cocktails in their bathing suits. Perhaps I watch too much Mad Men!

The reality isn’t quite as glamourous, but you can feel that it once existed. That didn’t deter me from wearing the most stereotypical garb that I could find in my wardrobe. My Stella McCartney inspired citrus dress has an air of the 50s about it, and the cat eyes need no explanation!

Vegas is a crazy place, and not somewhere I ever would have thought to visit if fate hadn’t brought me there, but it’s definitely got a side to it that I’m always keen to explore. The diners, old neon signs and it’s short but rich history are all reason enough to visit, even if you’re not a gambler (I paid out $3 and won 22 cents!) x
