Hello Sailor

Peixe

There is a whiff of fish in the air in Setúbal, Portugal. The fresh fish at the docks in the morning, and the smell of grilled fish on barbecues up and down the street after dark. Unfortunately for me, my rather limited palette doesn’t appreciate fish, but I’ve heard that it’s fantastic if you’re ever visiting.

I’ve been staying in this city every summer for the past 6 years – the joy of having a boyfriend from overseas! If you’ve been reading for a while, you’ll probably recognise the crumbling buildings and flower-pot-lined balconys with washing hanging below. You won’t find many tourists in Setúbal, a blessing and a curse, as the town would definitely benefit from a boost. It’s safe to say that we’ve explored every inch of the city by now, which meant the majority of our holiday was spent inside playing cards or going to the cinema to eat our favourite popcorn, but we had our annual trip into town, stopping by the docks at sunset to take a few snaps. Fitting considering I’d chosen to wear my Lover sailor dress.

I managed to find this much-coveted dress on eBay after years of searching. I remember it being styled with ripped tights, brogues and a straw boater in the lookbook back in 2009 – perhaps a look I’ll try and emulate now I’m back in a cooler climate. I’ll never get bored of nautical inspired clothing, with my seven season long search for a dress as proof! This simple cotton dress is going to pop up summer after summer. Maybe next time I’ll wear it on boat – but judging by the nausea I experienced just standing on a floating platform..it doesn’t seem likely! x
