One of our last tasks in Portugal was to visit Sintra, around an hours drive away. It had always been on my to-do list, but when we arrived I couldn’t believe we hadn’t gone sooner – the place was beautiful! Granted, I’d never seen as many tourists in Portugal in my life (making it difficult to capture the place on camera without children galore in shot), but it wasn’t without reason. The area is a must-see if you’re visiting Lisbon. It boasts several palaces and castles, but our first choice was the Romanticist Palácio da Pena. We were almost literally in the clouds by the time we made it up to the former royal holiday home, it’s most impressive part being it’s location atop a mountain. The beautiful view was unfortunately paired with gale force winds, hence the unruly hair in the images above! I was grateful I’d chose to wear a long dress too – no flashing for me! Plus, there was the added bonus of feeling a bit like a princess, swishing about the place.

The gardens were equally as beautiful – we got lost trying to find our way out, but that was no bad thing we came across one hydrangea bush after another (they seem to be a big thing in Sintra – does anybody know why?), black swans and lakes..it was a dream world. We could have stayed forever, but travelled back down the mountain along with the sun, leaving plenty more to explore next year. Of course, we had to grab a pastel nata and iced tea for the road. See you next year, Sintra! x

That blue is just electric. From the wall art and from your dress, it is beautiful.
It actually does look like something out of a fairy tale, I’m surprised you didn’t see a frog bouncing on those lily pads, asking you for a kiss. Stunning pictures, the pics from your summer have been truly mind blowingly amazing

I had to laugh about the hydrangea bushes! They seem to be like a plague in Portugal actually. You just stake them and a little after a huge bush appears. Some areas have more than others but they’re still quite common
do you mind revealing what kind of camera you are using?
love the lights and brightness in the pic
I can’t get over how beautiful the mosaics are in their blue-yellow(ish) colour combination.
I love Pena Palace
I went there too this summer. And got lost in the big garden as well xD We thought we must already be outside of the park, because there were no people at all and we couldn’t find it anywhere on the map. We managed to get back somehow though~ Unfortunately we seem to have missed the swans, but I’m sure I’m gonna go again someday, I’ll be on the lookout for them then.
I cannot tell you how much I adore your blog! These pictures, like all of yours, are stunning and you look gorgeous in that dress!
