Gold Dust

No Same Dress Fear

I’m sure it will be no huge surprise to hear that I don’t really “go out” much (popcorn and a film on the sofa over a night out, every time), so those dresses reserved only for special occasions sit patiently in my wardrobe waiting for their debut. That certainly doesn’t stop me buying them though – if I spot a dress that has a unique collar..or perhaps a cat on it..then it must be mine.

I’ve long adored unique pieces, opting to spend that little bit more on a frock from an independent designer, or altering a vintage piece to just the right length. When I do venture out on an evening, I’ll make sure it’s in something that has a bit of a story behind it – “Where’d you get that?” followed by “A friend of mine has this boutique that stocks…and so on” is preferable to “Topshop”, don’t you think? That’s why over at ASOS Marketplace (in case you hadn’t heard, I work there now!) we’re embracing the slogan “No Same Dress Fear” – promoting wearing vintage or independent labels at your Christmas parties this festive season. Who else is with me?!

The gold vintage prom dress that I’m lucky enough to be sporting in this post was found at Adorn Vintage, a new favourite boutique of mine – and one of yours too once you get clicking through! I’ll be honest, I’d not really thought of hunting down quality vintage pieces on Marketplace before I really got to know the site, but there are so many sellers that are really passionate about the items they are selling, and the majority of them are based in the UK too – score!

I pranced around the house in my gold attire for the rest of the day. I’m working up the confidence to wear it out – it’s not often I wear something so *ahem* open-chested..! x

    Oh Carrie!

I love this dress so much, you look simply amazing. I’m with you, I tend to prefer a dress with some coverage, but I would definitely wear this; the color and shape are worth it!

    Love the blog!

You should go for it! It looks beautiful and elegant and because it’s such a unique piece, nobody will be bothered by the ‘open chestness :-P ’ and neither should you, it doesn’t look trashy at all!

I hear ya!! The number of proms that I have been to and even the most “un-high street shops” will stock dresses that will be seen on more than one girl. I decided to go all out once and spent a fortune on a dress (what I believed nobody else would have) but sadly, there was still one girl with the exact one on. I still remember both of us bumping into each other and the realisition kicking in and then kind of giving each other evils “eugh, she’s wearing MY dress” this is such a great idea and you look beautiful, gold really suits you xx

What a wonderful dress! And it’s really a pity you don’t wear it outside – I totally understand what you mean with well “open-chested”, but maybe you could wear a cardigan ofter it?
And your “wear something vintage/independent” for christmas days is definitely something very good, I haven’t found any really good vintage store yet in Munich, I guess I should look more at asos marketplace (and yes, I knew you work there now!) ;-)

The pics look amazing, and the dress is beautiful. I really like the way you did your hair, could you explain how you did it?

I simply parted it down the middle, twisted it and gripped it over my head! Easy peasy : )

What a gorgeous blog post! The dress looks wonderful on you, and the length of the dress makes it look sophisticated even though it’s a bit risqué. ;)

I so agree with you! I live in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, and there even isn’t something like TopShop. Like I was missing so much fashion, I opened my own design label and it works here quite well! Woman here love jeans and TShirt. Me too, but sometimes it’s just beautiful to see oneself in a nice dress. So, a lot of women discovered dresses and I love to see their surprised, happy smile, when they put on my dresses.

Like you I prefer vintage dresses, or drafting / sewing the dress myself… It feels so special :)
Your pictures are also amazing. Love these golden hues.

The dress! Those shoes! That compact! This is why gold is one of my favorite colors! And why I’m searching through ASOS Marketplace now, even though I have my holiday dress… :)
