And my new purchase…
It has been over half a year since I last visited my family at home in Somerset. 2012 has really flown by! Each time I come back, a new shop will have closed..other than that, it remains exactly the same as it has in my 22 years living here.
Anybody that knows my little town, Shepton Mallet, will probably be sniggering at the thought of taking outfit photos in the town centre – it’s not exactly deemed picturesque (unless empty shops are your thang). In fact, we were able to snap away undisturbed, as it’s practically a ghost town at the weekend. It’s so sad to see such a historic place looking so unloved. Perhaps it takes moving away to busy London and coming back again to realise it’s potential – it’s such a pretty place, despite it’s flaws. I’m sure many of you will have similar stories about your hometowns, too?

One credit to Shepton is Mulberry. With the factory situated a stone’s throw away, and the factory shop a mere walk away from my house, it’s become a tradition to head down to the shop on the 27th to see if I can hunt something down in the sale. This year I spent my Christmas money on this coat – one I had long admired since spotting it at my first Mulberry show. £99 down from around £800 – not bad, eh? As far as I’m concerned, a girl can never have too many coats!
If you’re ever visiting the South West, please do pop by – the carrot cake at Kilver Court isn’t to be missed! x

I love love love that Mulberry coat, £99 is absolute bargain. Plus, it looks lovely with that mustard snood. I am super jealous of you living so close the the Mulberry factory store – the closest shop I live near to.. is Sainburys. Not so fancy, eh? Haha.
xxxx
Well, my nearest shop is Tesco..but that doesn’t sound quite as nice, haha!
I really love the grey coat paired with mustard scarf. It’s a wonderful pop of colour!
Beautiful and winter-ish outfit!

Lovely outfit. I like all of the pieces you’re wearing, especially the pop of colour with the scarf. I think that it’s easy to overlook the beauty of your hometown/area in favour of the glamour of a big city. However, it’s less about the appearance of the place than the memories and the feelings that are attached to it. That’s what makes a place truly beautiful.

I never visited Shepton Mallet when I lived near by but it looks lovely in your pictures, even the most hideous town centres have hidden character and beauty if you look hard enough! Great coat too.
I know Shepton Mallet very well. You are right it has such hidden potential and it is a real shame the recent t.v. programme they did on it with the shops through the ages (forget the name) didn’t spur more people on to open independent shops
Mulberry and Kilver Court are a must if anyone is in the area though. Gorgeous coat btw
Such a darling look- especially adore the typography on the jumper and the pop of fun yellow from the scarf. Have a wonderful time with the family. x

I couldn’t tell from the photos you’re hometown isn’t picturesque – you made it look really pretty!
Ooh what a wonderful Mulberry bargain Carrie; this coat is so lovely and looks adorable on you! I definitely want to visit the Mulberry factory this year, so will make sure to stop by Kilver Court and have a potter around your hometown whilst I’m there!
Happy New Year!

Great pictures as always- it’s such a shame that small towns are suffering with the arrival of the big boys like Tesco. Thank God for Mulberry. Beaut coat too, such a bargainous gem.

Love it <3 and the pictures are so cool!!! But my favorites are your boots! Fell in love <3
Oh, so beautiful!
Your outfit is wonderful!
Your post on your hometown really got me thinking.
Visiting mine during Christmas holidays has been a pretty similar experinence. It is a shame to watch the town one has grown up in turn out like that. Living in a busy, economic strong city now, I started to see the beauty of a small, not so busy town with it’s very own quality of life, which is shrinking though with economical instability..
