Life’s a Photo
Last weekend myself and a bunch of bloggers from across the globe were shipped to Berlin, the city voted by Samsung lovers as the most photogenic city. This was all thanks to their Life’s a Photo campaign, celebrating their new social-friendly snapper, the Samsung GALAXY Camera.
Whilst Berlin has a charm of it’s own, I’m not sure it would have been on the top of my list of most photogenic locations – perhaps that’s because I’m more of a macarons and cobbled streets kinda gal – street art just doesn’t do it for me (I’d love to hear what you think is the most photogenic city?!). I know plenty of people that adore Berlin, so couldn’t wait to take a closer look to discover what I was missing. We all took to the streets with our new gadgets in hand to see what we could snap, layered up and laden down thanks to the sub-zero temperatures.

The Camera
I’m a bit of a stick-in-the-mud when it comes to cameras. I know what I like, and I stick with it. I’ve been happily snapping away with my Canon 5D for years now, and as any other SLR owners will know, it’s no easy feat lugging that one around all day, especially when traveling. Being stubborn, I insisted on shooting with my 5D, but gave the GALAXY camera a good go to compare the two.
Of course, the quality of the shots are extremely different – but with a little tweaking in Photoshop, I think the Samsung GALAXY is the perfect contender for a lightweight backup. I’ve included some of the pictures in this post, hidden amongst the rest, identifiable by a little graffiti of my own…!
But this camera isn’t setting out to be a replacement for your SLR, it’s selling point is the ability to edit and share instantly. It felt as if I was using a touch-screen phone with a super cool zoom lens..the only downside being that it can’t make phone calls. Definitely worth a play with if you’re looking for a camera to take on your travels with you.
Wow. Perhaps I need to start up a tech category. I got quite enthusiastic about that! x

Wow! That bear is pretty cool!!
And the flamingo street art!! X
Love this post, the photographs are absolutely amazing. I totally get what you mean about the street art, cobbled streets and cute little windows are my cup of tea. Sadly, I live in Newcastle so that’s fair and far between, with walls just full of ‘art’ that seems to be by people who are unable to spell, haha. (However, there is a piece of graffiti I walk past everyday, where someone has went all grammar nazi on it and has added in an apostrophe and a “re” in biro.. so funny!)
Also, the name of this post made me giggle! Super clever
xxxx
I have to say I love Berlin – I think there’s a real beauty in its ruggedness. I’m definitely partial to macaroons and cobbled streets as well but sometimes that can feel a little stylised whereas I love the rawness of Berlin. One of my favourite cities to photograph is probably Venice – it has a slight touch of decaying grandeur about it that I love.
I’ve not been to be Venice – that’s another to add to my list of places to see! I too like that hint of decaying grandeur – at least to photograph and document it, anyway.
IS THAT THE TITLE YOU WERE DEVISING IN THE PLANE?!?!??!
I had a frantic moment there as I searched for the missing “like” button, but then I realized I wasn’t on Facebook. And then I realized that Facebook has warped my brain. It’s clearly only a matter of time before I start wondering why the “like” button isn’t hanging in mid-air under any face I like.
Haha! Everything is blending in to one, right?! I do, in fact, have a Facebook like button at the bottom of the post! ; )
HAHAHAHA YES. I’m such a loser.
Love your jacket and bag!

I adore these photos, looks like you had an amazing time! Lovely outfits tooxx
It sounds really cool! I think I’m still going to have to go in for the SLR, though, but it is a beautiful camera!

Amazing outfit, cool camera!

I like the look of that camera.
Reading through the comments above I was surprised to see someone from the North East who doesn’t think Newcastle would be a contender for being one of the most photogenic city! Theres the views of the tyne, the Ouseburn Valley, the famous ‘shoe tree’ in Heaton park, the bridges, the history (castle keep, black gate, the old sinclair building, the cluny, the old city walls etc) to name but a few. When travelling around the centre of town always ‘look up’ to see some of the most beautiful buildings in Newcastle – Newcastle is full of hidden gems.
I think Amsterdam is always a good city to photograph too. I love seeing pictures of the canals.

Can you believe that living in England I’ve never made it up to Newcastle? There are so many places that I’m yet to visit in my own country – I have to make it my mission to head up North, as as you’ve made it sound wonderful : )
Agree with you on Amsterdam though, I went as a child and remember all the tall buildings and bicycles. I’ll put that on my list, too ; ) x
Aww you should! I love it here. I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.

your shoes, i’ve long be looking to buy some for too long; they are truly beautiful! would you recommend them? it’s my food budget at risk, and i need to know if they’re worth it?! xx
I think you could get EXTREMELY similar ones for a lot cheaper to be honest. I only got them in Topshop as I was in the store and had been meaning to get some, but I think even eBay might come up trumps for similar ones : )
Despite being a Berlin-girl through and through I am quite surprised Berlin got voted as the most photpgenic cities. My vote would go for Lisbon (since it’s the only city I visited in Portugal) Don’t have to explain why, do I?
Definitely not, Lisbon is such a charmer! I think my vote goes to Paris..but I made that obvious enough with my macaron reference, haha. x
I looks like you guys had fun, but I’d take London for shooting over Berlin any day!
Egads, what a lovely place! I’ve never been to Berlin, but it looks to be stunning (though that might just be your handiwork).
My favorite image is the flamingo. The style looks like Arabic calligraphy.
Have you ever had the pleasure of meeting a flamingo? They run at you full-force with their fluffy, Muppet-like bodies and try to knock you over. If you stay upright, they’ll preen you. It’s pure magic. I’d forgotten about meeting one until your photo reminded me.
Keep posting lovelies! They brighten the winter.

Love that you like the flamingo picture – that one was taken on the Samsung camera!
And no, I’ve not had the pleasure of meeting a flamingo, haha! I’ve seen them at several zoos (as well as at the Flamingo hotel in Vegas!) but never up close and personal – sounds amazing! x
Oh the image of you and the big bear is adorable! And I love your skirt!
The Occasional Indulgence
Such beautiful photos. That huge bear is adorable

Chicago is an incredibly photogenic city, I think it’s often overshadowed by New York but the concentration of beautiful buildings seems to be much higher, and it has the L transport system so it feels like you’re in a comic book!
Amazing. I’m sure I’ll get there one day – I’ve not even made it to NY yet – it’s on my to-do list for this year : )
Amazing pictures you have here.
That sounds like a lot of fun. And I agree, SLR cameras are heavy and take a lot of space in your bag.
Lovely pictures, understand why you got shipped there.
very nice pics! love your fur! xo, Alma

I’m going to Berlin next week on a history trip with school; this delightful has made me even more excited! It looks like such a beautiful city and I was planning on using it as backdrop for some outfit posts that I’ve never really had the opportunity to do well on my new blog! Any advice on what I should/shouldn’t wear (as I feel I’m a tad unprepared for what weather to expect!)?
In terms of the most beautiful city, I’d say York has to be up there with the best!x
It was around -8 when we were there – so really do wrap up! I was sure to pack my fluffy coat, haha. And I totally agree with you – York is beautiful!
You are so cute !

Although I’m not very found of street art those photos are lovely! I must say the most photogenic city for me would have to be London. The West is just beautiful and full of luxury but nothing compares to East London for me. I love the Victorian houses and how you still find little bits (such as paintings in the walls advertising family business) left of people who lives there hundred years ago! If I had a better camera and a bit more talent I’d dedicate myself on showing the beauty side of the London ex-slums! xxx
Agreed – I really should make the most of London, it’s beautiful : )
Berlin is such a beautiful city…actually I think she has her own beauty and maybe not everyone can join it!
…
I loved this city so much that I would like to live there for a while..a lot of young people, colors and easy going there
p.s.= love your fur coat and hat!
The pictures are gorgeous, i don’t know if it’s an effect or natural light, but the result is stunning! I also really like the sweater and skirt that you’re wearing <3
All real! The sun was setting and it was beautiful : )
Berlin looks so beautiful. Love the coat.

That coat! So wonderful. I love seeing photos of places I’ve never visited, it looks pretty cool there x
Ah wow I went there last weekend too and loved it! I thought the street art was pretty amazing some of it – we went down that same little street haha. These pictures and your outfit are gorgeous! x
i love berlin! viel spass!
I would never think of Berlin as a photogenic city!I`ve never been there, but Berlin still is not the place, that I crave to visit.I`m definitely not a fan of rough urban style,I`m a fan of romantic and dreamy environmets:)
But I think, that Istanbul is the most photogenic city-full of mystery, buildings like from an oriental fairy tales and multiplicy and in the same time the city has its modern stunningly developed side:)

Ohh, Berlin ♥ lovely photos!
I haven’t visited Berlin yet, but these pictures make me want to!
Absolutely in love with the last picture. You two look like absolute besties ^^

Wow, that is a beautiful jumper. Lovely photos too, of course
xx
Aaawww! The picture with the bear <3 <3 <3 It is just perfect! <3 Greta outfit by the way
so many things to comment on!
firstly, you look like an absolute princess, love your outfit!!
secondly, yes! finally a camera which means i can have more room in my bad as my dslr wont be hogging all space! i would not have been able to tell the difference between the picyou have included-taken with the samsung and the other pics, if you hadn’t pointed it out. of course it still cant compare to the 5D, im sure detail shots are taken loads better but it’s still nice to know that there is a lighter alternative for the days where you don’t wanna end up with shoulder cramp
xx
Exactly! Especially if you’re just looking to take snapshots etc. I was surprised at how they looked when uploaded as I didn’t have high expectations, to be honest.
Berlin is such a beautiful city and you are a very beautiful girl! I’d love to visit there sometime, do you speak any German? Berlin looks wonderful and your outfit is just stunning – the love the contrast of the white and black against the colourful street art! It’s just awesome!
Also the photos look great, I love your blog; I look forward to your next post

I honestly think that sometimes just having the option to take a photo when you didn’t expect it is how some of the best photos occur!
When I look back at old film photos I never think: oh, if only they’d been taken on a snazzy SLR rather than my Mum’s disposable. But then again, I guess that all depends on whether you’re photographing professionally or just for memories!
You are so cute- these are such lovely captures! And adore your winter chic coat!

Wow! That coat is a masterpiece! You look so heavenly pretty. I hope to visit Berlin someday too… xx

Gorgeous photos! Berlin is probably my favorite capital at the moment, I understand what you mean about it not being overly ‘pretty’ that’s the main problem we have in German. The cities were so badly destroyed during WW2 and after the war there just wasn’t enough money to fix things up again.
In terms of photographic cities, Barcelona is pretty amazing for that and so in Munich (my all time favorite German city)
You look stunning as always!
xxx

Your pictures of Berlin are so pretty, I wish I could visit this city someday!
Great photos as usual, the Samsung does a great job! It was kinda hard to differentiate the shots taken by the 5D and the galaxy cam, I guess that’s a good thing.
Love your outfit as well xx

i looove your white furry coat! i like the idea of sharing instantly through cameras, although to be honest, the iphone has a pretty good camera nowadays anyway! it’s interesting to see your pics though, they do look good!
i do love Berlin (my grandmother came from west Berlin), particularly when you stray out of the touristy bits & into the parks, the cafes, the academia circles, bohemian & arty bars.. & they do such decadent cakes!
Katie x
super pretty! your outfit is perfect for the location!

Absolutely gorgeous photos! It sure does look like the most photogenic city to me!
Your second photograph of a church (?) is absolutely stunning! I’d love to see more of the street art photos, if you have any.
Berlin has a nice vibe to it, and I love the bear!
You look so cute! I love these photos!!!
Berlin is on my list for quite a while. I’ve heard such a great stories about city.
Lovely as usual, but the beard photo is epic.
I wouldn´t have voted for Berlin too but have to say the shots are pretty darn cool
