Bittersweet
On the morning of the second day of London Fashion Week, I tweeted that I resembled a marshmallow in my pink, cream and mint get-up. And here is your proof! It’s safe to say that I’m fed up of Winter, so as soon as the sun reared it’s shiny head over the weekend, I made the most of it by cracking out a sugary pastel colour palette. And on another note…

I strolled with my pals Dunya and Laia over to Somerset House after the Orla Kiely presentation to witness the circus surrounding the tent. I can’t help but agree with the infamous Suzy Menkes article when I see young girls teetering on the cobbles in their impossibly high heels, showing off which invitations they managed to get their mitts on this season. Street style isn’t street style anymore, how can it be so when people plan their outfit weeks in advance to please blokes with big lenses? I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t guilty of pre-meditating my looks based on what has or hasn’t already been photographed for WishWishWish, but guess what? I threw on this skirt and jumper combo that morning and couldn’t give two hoots that I wasn’t photographed by a single street style snapper. I just wanted to look nice for myself – remember that?
So, we found a quiet little corner and played part in our own photoshoot, probably not any less contrived, but definitely a lot more fun (you only had to witness Dunya attempting to climb up on the wall for a picture and my subsequent fit of laughter to see that we take ourselves far from seriously). I’ve been doing this for nearly 5 years now, it feels so normal to take pictures of myself to put on the internet. I can see how other people might not understand – I’m used to the expressions on people’s faces as I explain what I do here. That’s why I try not to think about it too much and just accept it, reminding myself that I’ve been so fortunate as a result.
Ahhh, blogging. Weird, isn’t it? x

Great spring colours! I also love that you tucked your jumper in your skirt, it gives a great relaxed feel to the silhouette.

I absolutely adore your marshmallow look, you look chic yet a little cosy! I couldn’t agree more with your street style comment, I feel that so many fashionistas try to push the crazy boundaries just to get snapped. I’d much sooner wear what I deem cool and take my own snaps.

Exactly what I was getting at! x
Blogging seems weird for someone else:) but I think it’s good to do
an archive of every moment of our lives!
Btw, maybe you’ve heard of million times but you look like Zoey Deschanel!
I’ve just discovered your blog and everytime I look at the pictures of you, I feel like I see “500 days of summer” movie scenes:))
And the pictures are so smooth and pure, it gives me a sense of “marsmallow”!
Hugs!

Yeah, I like that about it – the fact that we can scroll through archives of things that we’ve done and places we’ve been is amazing! …And that’s the biggest compliment – I wish I was as beautiful as her! Thank you x
Psh, marshmallow in seriously the best way! Also your purse is amazing! Also love that you’re not afraid to say, hey, maybe Menkes was right, but I’m not going to take it as a personal insult.

I love this look. So cute!
I agree with you on street style. I don’t get why so many people go so far out for one little picture. It’s crazy.

5 minutes of fame, perhaps?! : ) x
I agree with Hannah’s comment. =)
On my girlier day’s your outfit is exactly something I’d want to dawn. It’s filled with subtle textures and eye pleasing colors. Those shoes, adorable.. I think when we dress each day, we only need worry if it makes ourselves happy and not give rat’s behind if it impresses someone else. That seems like unnecessary pressure anyway.
I’m glad you continue to enjoy what you’re doing here. Cheers!
I love your outfit, especially the mint jumper, you look lovely!
And as always the photographs are beautiful!

You look beautiful in pastels ♥
And about the street style – I agree, it’s not street style anymore
You look beautiful Carrie as always, just so put-together, and I love the theme of gold running through your outfit. The chicest marshmallow in town!
It’s wonderful how you don’t take yourself or blogging too seriously, it makes what you write and the photographs so much more interesting.

Absolutely love this outfit, the pastel colour palette looks incredible on you. I couldn’t think of anyone more perfect to wear such a lovely outfit (I think I’d look like more of a flump than a marshmallow.. haha!), I’m particularly adoring the mint green jumper – plus it looks super cosy, which always a bonus!
Couldn’t agree more about the street-style, what’s the point in wearing a really over-the-top outfit just to get people staring?! It’s all about feeling comfortable and pretty in what you’re wearing, and if it’s forced/not your usual style, then it shows (or so I think anyways).
xxxx
In love with that skirt!!

What you’ve said is so true!
When I went to Somerset House before the fashion show I got to see, I felt lost in a sea of fur coats, crazy high heeled boots and top knots. It’s not even that there’s anything wrong with these things, it’s just the sheer volume of people wearing the same thing! Fashion is about celebrating individuality!
Thanks Carrie, as ever, I love your blog!
Nikki
Completely agree! : )
Absolutely gorgeous outfit! I definitely would’ve taken a picture of you for my blog! I am desperately in need of some pastel clothes, as well as that skirt for that matter! Just lovely:) xxx

As always looking beautiful Carrie.. Cant even imagine what Somerset house is like around LFW. I think I would be hidden in a corner watching from afar.
I guess as long as your blogging for you who cares what everyone else thinks, right?
Brave lady getting your legs out already! You look lovely, I always feel you can tell when people have tried to hard to be ‘cool’ for fashion week, much better to just be yourself xx
You look so great!
Love your jumper
xx.
Stunning photos, I love the pastel colours of your outfit
xx
What a beautiful outfit! Wearing bright pastels when spring is on the way – there is something very right about that! I collect pocket mirrors, by the way, and that one looks like a real gem. Bon week-end from Paris!
May I ask, from where do you get the rings?
Ahh of course, I forgot! They are from Primark for a whole £1.50 ; )
They are adorable! Thank you for sharing! : )
Lovely skirt! I really liked the texture and subtle print on it!
The whole combination is very sweet looking, it really suits you!

You are right when you say street style isn’t street style any more, but I would argue only at London Fashion Week. When I was photographing people at London Collections: Men, everybody was dressed effortlessly, as if that is the way they dress all year round. Furthermore, those guests at menswear week attended because they were genuinely interested in the designers. They were not there for the sake of attending.
There is too much hype at LFW, and consequently, I was very disinterested in photographing people. I too did not plan my outfits this season, but I did dress up – not for the cameras, but because I enjoy dressing up, which is how it should be.
You look very nice. I am well impressed. Keep being true to yourself.
aww you look amazing, Carrie! I truly love your skirt
I think one of the things that made me follow your blog was definitely the fact that you are not afraid to wear your own style, I like when bloggers stay true to themselves and they just don’t care for fashion trends or rules! I really enjoyed reading your two cents here, it definitely made me feel more confident as I also tend to wear more casual/comfy outfits and sometimes get a little bit ashamed when I see girls next to me with Litas, Maxi skirts, asymmetrical blouses and sunnies… they are definitely more “fashionable” then me but they always look so uncomfortable! I think it’s definitely better to wear what makes you happy!
So sweet, truly lovely photos

This outfit is so perfect and sweet!
I agree with you. I enjoy seeing creative outfits and new fashion innovations. But when being as unique and shocking as possible becomes the only point of one’s style, it’s no longer their _own_ style.
http://plasticssmile.blogspot.com
I think you look absolutely gorgeous, and I think it is so important to dress for YOU, and wear what you feel comfortable in and like. Those shoes are to die for!
All your photos look so dreamy, so beautiful.
I absolutely adore pastels and so this outfit is a big favourite for me!! You look absolutely wonderful
That bag and those shoes are right up my street ! xx
I like your outfit! And this bag… Oh I dreamed about it!
As for the Suzy’s article, I disagree with her a lot, but I do agree that streetstyle isn’t steetstyle anymore and all these heroins of “streestyle” blogs now dress not to express their individuality, but to impress the photographers…

you are the best marshmallow ever! I love your shoes
