High school

There are two kinds of outfit posts; those that you snap when you chance upon a pretty background when you’re out and about (the real “what I wore today”) and those that you dream up, or plan, piecing together the elements to create your vision.

Or at least that’s how it works for me! I think you can guess which of the two this one is! Shooting like that almost allows to you slip into a character, making pouting and prancing in heels feel a little more acceptable!

For anyone in the US reading, I’m sure this high school backdrop is more than familiar, but growing up in the UK and obsessing over US teen films (like the rest of you, I presume!), it’s more of a novelty. We don’t do jocks or cheerleaders in the same way that these films led us to believe that our friends across the pond do.

It all conjures up ideas of mascots, pom poms, varsity jackets & chanting. Whether that world only really exists in films and my head, I had great fun pretending for a little bit at this Las Vegas high school track, and these Charlotte Olympia shoes did a lot to help!

I like to think that I would have been quite the cheerleader had I gone to school in the US, but alas, I had my fair share of pom pom action as a majorette!

What I Wore…

Jacket – White Chocoolate | Tee – Primark | Shorts – ASOS | Shoes – Charlottle Olympia | Bag – Charlotte Olympia | Sunglasses – Polaroid

Awesome, oh wow! Like, totally freak me out! I mean, right on! The Toros sure are number one!

Wow this post is to die for – it looks like it has come straight out of an American teen movie and I LOVE it! I also always wanted to be a cheerleader when I was younger – so this is all sorts of wonderful! Beeeaauutiful photographs – looks like it was a super hot day!

Carrie, my family moved from Hertfordshire to Ontario when I was 17 so I did my last year of school in a full-on North American high school. For the first week all I kept saying was “I feel like I’m in High School Musical!” – rows of bright lockers, mascots, pom-poms, sports chants etc. It really is what they say in the movies!

I love this outfit – even with all the obviously American-themed pieces there’s still a detectable British vibe.

those wedges are so cute and unique. and growing up in florida, we definitely had football and pom poms and cheerleaders, but I don’t remember it looking nearly as glamorous as television makes it out to be. love this post! you are gorgeous.

Those shoes are to die for. They definitely wouldn’t fit in at an actual football game, but they’re great to look at!

LOVE this whole look. Those shoes are super adorable! Also loving the sunglasses as well. My high school was nothing like the movies…esp since I went to school in NYC. We didn’t have a football team or field…WOMP WOMP lol

I have been OBSESSED with those Charlotte Olympia shoes for quite awhile. So this whole blog post just makes me so happy! I’ve always dreamed of being a cheerleader but England just doesn’t seem to do it quite as well as America.
SO cool that you got to shoot this post in a high school too! How did you manage that?

Love this! As another Brit, this definitely was my image – and I’m glad to say I didn’t lose it when I went and did the summer camp program over there!

I always imagined how it would have been growing up in the US…wondering if I would have made it into the cheerleading squad 😀 Is that quote at the very end from “Bring it on”? Loved watching it 🙂

I read this post at work and didn’t have chance to write a comment but my gosh Carrie, this is the best thing ever. This is straight out of a magazine and you must be so pleased with these images! The shoes and the jacket are perfection.

This outfit is sooo adorable, and you couldn’t have picked a better photoshoot location. I was totally a high school cheerleader myself — moreso like the CLOVERS though! Hahaha. I would looove to get a glimpse of British high school life vs. American. Got any good movie suggestions?

It’s not just the movies most are like that, though the movies do exaggerate. Each high school has multiple categories and they are “naturally” grouped together but the jocks and cheerleaders do have their special place. Anyway, the shots are great. My favorite photo is the last one, so feminine!

Amazing photographs! I love those shoes, Charlotte Olympia is so brilliant. I can’t wait to hopefully one day own a pair of her shoes!

The backdrop is brilliant. I definitely get that slipping into character thing, I find it quite enjoyable really. I always wished that English schools looked like this! XX

Fantastic shoot! I pretty much love everything about it, especially that incredible jukebox bag and your varsity wedges. Very telling that I’m also a UK graduate who never got to have the collegiate/high school experience 😉 I want to sit on bleachers in a varsity jacket too! x

Don’t worry, from someone in the US, for the most part the films with jocks and cheerleaders are fairly true! You would have made an excellent cheerleader especially in that outfit! So adorable! Obsessing over the shoes <3

Goodness! You make me want to do a ‘Bring it On’ Marathon. Or just replay the first movie over and over, and watch Clueless. And anything typically set in the 90s American High School Genre. Really love the look.

though i was definitely anti- school spirit whilst in high school, i do love the aesthetics of this sort of kitschy-prep look and your photo shoot nailed it.

I don’t know how you manage to pull off that Americana look so flawlessly. I’m sure I’d look like a tiny child playing dress-up if I tried this look! I reckon I’ll probably stick to the English Rose look, to stay safe! Also, congrats on your engagement – soon you can join the marriage club! 😉

May I simply say what a relief to discover someone that genuinely knows what they’re discussing over
the internet. You definitely realize how to bring an issue
to light and make it important. A lot more people really
need to read this and understand this side of your story.
I was surprised that you’re not more popular given that you definitely possess the gift.
