Bloggers to Biscuits like the proverbial moth to flame…
Last week I was invited to an “Access All Areas” bloggers event at ASOS, not only to take a look at the new spring collection but also to try it on and strut down the famous ASOS catwalk in it!
The event was host to a wide range of fabulous bloggers – including some of my favourites, like Park & Cube; I was so excited to finally meet Shini, and we spent the evening chatting about blogs, photography and finding something for me to wear that was out of my comfort zone! (…and biscuits.)
We were sorted for biscuits, but finding something new for me to try was a bit of a failure..the first dress I picked up wasn’t in my size, so I opted for some pastel pink shorts and heels instead. Whilst 6 inch heels aren’t usually my thing, pink shorts definitely are – I loved the “paper bag” high waist (Find some similar ones here!). So I wasn’t exactly adventurous – which is a shame, especially when there were bright prints and maxi dresses on offer.
Having an ‘Access All Areas’ pass for ASOS was a bit of a surreal experience – i’m always browsing the website, so to be in the room where the catwalk is filmed and the images are taken was odd indeed! We were treated to makeovers and with a little hesitation, took to the catwalk.
I had a fabulous night and met some wonderful ladies, and as if treating us to a VIP evening wasn’t good enough, ASOS threw in a gift voucher at the end to each of us. In true “poor student” style, I spent mine ASAP! It was only when I was searching for something to buy that I reasiled just how much ASOS actually stock – although it didn’t take me long to find a few goodies. Come back soon to see me modelling my new ASOS pieces.
On Monday I was featured on the wonderful blog Glossary. It was one of the most interesting interviews i’ve had the pleasure of being a part of – so take a look!
And whilst we’re on the subject, i’m in the habit of answering questions via email, but once in a while it’s great to do a question post - so ask me anything in the comments here and i’ll post the answers in a few days!
P.S – I have some loooovely outfits to share with you at the weekend! x
I now realise it looks as if my fingers are glued to my hat…oops.
As I promised in the last post, here is another of my new denim pieces! Maybe it’s the H&M Blues campaign that I keep seeing at bus stops that’s inspiring me – there is just something so fresh and spring-like about wearing a denim dress. I got this particular dress from a sweet vintage store on Etsy, The Tailor’s Stories. For a simple look (..I was going to the supermarket!) I paired it with an old black trench from New Look and some over the knee socks.
Wearing over the knee socks has always been a bit daunting for me. I’ve put them on many times and got too worried before I left the house so promptly took them off again, and did the same “on, off, yes, no, maybe” routine again this morning. I was worried the people of Barnet wouldn’t be ready to see my bare thighs…I wasn’t in the mood for men in their white vans to beep their horn at me. Thankfully, nobody batted an eyelid!
And just before I go and continue sketchbooking, i’d like to say thank you all so much for understanding my sporadic posts! Everything is getting really hectic as we approach the end of term at University, but it won’t be long until I can spend my time blogging again! x
Just a couple posts ago I told you I had been a litttttle bit naughty and bought myself some Luella goodies in the sale at London Fashion Weekend, well..here are a couple of them! I don’t know what came over me but I ended up buying a new jumper, t shirt and bag – ANOTHER BAG! Of course, it was to give my beloved Alexa a rest and at the price I bought it for I couldn’t quite resist. So, minus the t-shirt, you can see my new Luella goodies above.
Perhaps more shocking than the fact that a poor student like myself has indulged herself with a new designer bag (it was cheap, I promise!), is that i’m wearing jeans. Now, I haven’t worn jeans in years (this blog is testament to that!) so it was a bit of a shock putting them on and rediscovering the once familiar feeling of finding it almost impossible to step over things..or even sit down. Despite this, I have a new found love for denim, so expect lots more denim-themed outfits throughout the week!
Hope you enjoy the little video showing the details x
1. I have so many lovely clothes that I can’t physically fit any new ones in my wardrobe, and seeing as I have bought a few new things lately I decided it was time to part with some of the things I don’t wear often enough. The four items above are just a few of the things i’ve got for sale over on my eBay page. You’ll find vintage, Dahlia, Topshop, H&M and ASOS, so take a look – there might be something you like! It’s not all online yet (because i’m not feeling so great today and it’s taking me a while..) but keep checking back for more.
2. I’ve mentioned Super Duper Things by LouLou before but I think her little shop warrants another post! When browsing through my bookmarks (avoiding work, of course!) I opened up the shop and found some beautiful new additions, such as the fabulous sihlouette pendant featured above, the Military style Fleur delis necklace and the pom-pom necklace – all my favourites! I’m also in love with the homewares – i’m guilty of purchasing one of the one-off pieces this morning to put on my wall! oops..
3. One of my favourite London-based blogs, Park and Cube, not only has the best pictures and outfits but also some of the most fabulous DIY posts in the fashion blogosphere! When I see Shini has written a new DIY, I get very excited..they’re not the boring unattainable type of do-it-yourself either, they are things that you really want to give a go. Using her tutorials as inspiration you can create some unique accessories. One of my favourites has to be the embellished tights – take a look at the tutorial for cloudy pearl tights here at TwentyThirtyForty, or have a look at the rest of her DIYs here. I had a go at the cloudy pearl tights myself – before running out of pearls!
4. I found this video by Angela Kohler over at Lilyandthemuse. Isn’t it amazing? As someone with an interest in the production of video, i’m always astonished at the hard work that goes into stop-motion – especially when the end result is as beautiful as this!
5. Another spring collection to covet! We’ve had a few sunny days here in London over the past week, still too cold to be taking off your tights, (..or coat) but there is definitely hope…! Especially after taking a look at Nadinoo’s SS10 looks that are now in stock on her web shop. Nadinoo, designed by British Designer Nadia Izruna, is a brand for girls like me and you; “Designs include boastful bows, flirtatious frills and beautiful bell shapes in sumptuous silks and cottons from Liberty of London prints.” Prices are a little above a student budget but save for a few months and you could buy a whole outfit. I’m seriously tempted.
6. Since moving house, i’ve been on a bit of an interior design kick. I remember hearing about Caravan on WeeBirdy, and stumbled across it a few weeks ago whilst I was in the area. I didn’t leave empty handed, and came home with a wall hook featuring a deer’s head (because everyone needs one of these, right?). I was delighted to know that they sell some of their items online too, so take a look on their pretty website!
If you follow me on Twitter, you might have realised that i’ve been Tweeting more frequently in past week or so, and this is because the lovely 3MobileBuzz gave me a phone that actually has internet capabilities to try out for a few weeks. I always feel left out at these events, and have to catch up on my tweets when I get home but having a phone less than 3 years old is a godsend! I was lucky enough to receive the HTC Hero, which i’ve found extremely simple to use and kind of fallen in love with..I don’t want to give it back!
Not only that, they took me and my looovely competition winner, Katie, along to London Fashion Weekend with a bunch of other fabulous bloggers. Here is how our day looked…
shy bloggers – Katie with Frankie from Swell Vintage.
Natasha with her morning coffee – it was an early start!
Fiona of Save Our Shoes with her new Luella clutch (..and INQ Chat, of course)
It’s lucky we did get there early because it meant that we could get to the good stuff first – we saw Luella on the list of designers selling at the event and bolted there straight away, not stopping to look at anything else on the way – I knew if I was going to be spending money on anything that day it would be some of Luella’s last pieces. Fiona managed to get the ribbon clutch above for a mere £40, reduced from £900-and-something – a huge bargain! I managed to get my hands on a few bargains too…oops! I was never any good at saving money..
London Fashion Weekend is a great way to get hold of some bargain designer clothing, but it got ridiculously busy later in the day, so I suggest starting early to find all the good bits!
We were also treated to the London Fashion Weekend catwalk, which highlighted new trends, showcased some vintage clothing and we also got to see the entire Betty Jackson Collection. Of course, as an army of bloggers with phones in our hands, we didn’t take the whole thing entirely seriously and tweeted throughout. There was some lovely clothing though, if you were there on Saturday too and heard very audible gasps and “oooohs” coming from the back row, that was us..!
Now I know all too well that you love an outfit post, and as I was the one with the camera in my hand (and sadly no boyfriend around to take my photo!), I decided that i’d post my competition winner, Katie’s outfit instead because I was in love with it – and I hope you are too! Her amazing rhinoceros playsuit, schoolgirl shoes and satchel are all vintage, and she finished off the look with a bright red ribbon in her hair! I knew straight away that she was a reader of my blog, and it turned out we have an awful lot in common! Check out her blog here. I bet you’re all this well dressed, right?!
I certainly made some lovely new friends on my day out to London Fashion Weekend, and hopefully this means i’ll provide you with some fabulous new reading material too..here are their blogs:
