A few days ago it was Lucy’s “blogiversary”, and we were wishing Snippets of Shiny Thoughts a happy first birthday. Of course, this group of London fashion bloggers never miss any opportunity to meet up – and a blog birthday was no exception.
We all met at the hummingbird bakery for cake, and then moved on to the Brown’s 40 years exhibition. The cake was fabulous, and i’m sure the exhibition was too, but I was so preoccupied chatting and trying to get my camera to work that I missed most of it.
Anyway, the point of this post. I’ve been so lucky to meet the most amazing people since I moved to London – i’m not sure people even know what blogs are where i’m from, so it’s always so refreshing to chat (and eat cake..!) with people you have things in common with. So I thought i’d introduce them to you – perhaps you’ll find a few new ones to follow! This is by no means everybody, but it’s a good start…
The lovely lady in the first picture is Daniela. I’d only met her once before, and she’s a real sweety. Her blog, Couture and Crumpets is about clothes, shoes, and more shoes. Daniela gives her take on trends and what she’s been wearing too.
Well what can I say about Fiona of Save Our Shoes? i’m so glad I met this girl, because she’s a gem – she never fails to make me laugh. She is part of a blog-writing twosome; the other lady behind Save Our Shoes is LJ, who I am yet to meet. They blog about, you guessed it, shoes, as well as..style, music and..everything else really..! If you’re a blogger and you live in London, you’ve probably met Fiona, i’m almost certain of it.
Now what can I say about Lucy? This is the girl that I text every 10 minutes keeping her up-to-date with what i’m doing..eating..watching..you know – we’re pretty inseparable and I wouldn’t have it any other way. We met for the first time at university – she is on the same course as me, and I remember her coming up to me telling me that she read my blog. Lucy’s blog is about her own ventures into the world of fashion, as well as a plethora of other creative things – she keeps a list of shows and exhibitions in her sidebar that she thinks her readers should visit! Our tastes are pretty different, i’m always teasing her for her loves of bright plastic jewelery..but aside from that we’re like two peas in a pod.
i’m quite certain you’ll already know Shini’s popular blog already, and quite rightly so. I’m in awe of her beautiful photography, so i’m always excited to see her in action when we meet. She’s not only great at taking inspiring pictures – she always looks amazing..so if you’re in the minority that haven’t already, visit park and cube! P.S – Her DIYs are my favourite!
I met Kit for the first time just the other day, and i’m glad I did because i’d never visited her blog before and now it’s a firm favourite. She has a photo-based fashion blog, and takes stunning images – just take a look at this post! Oh, and how cool are her studded leggings?!
Sadly I didn’t get to speak to Toni very much at all when we met, but I took a few snaps of her before my battery died and she’s too beautiful to leave out, right? I hadn’t visited her blog before either, so The Fashion Cloud was a new one for me to follow too..!
Saskia was another blogger I hadn’t met before – but any girl in a hat and brogues is an instant friend of mine. She posts up her outfits and inspiration..another blog to add to my bookmarks!
I met Jill for the first time at London Fashion Week. She has huge talent for spotting beautiful, stylish people on the streets of london and her blog does what it says on the tin and more. It’s not just a regular street style blog, she’ll get to know the people she’s taking pictures of and not only tell her readers about them, but really capture their personality in her photos too.
Of course, these are only the girls that I got to meet up with this weekend, there are plenty more of you i’m very pleased to have met, and i’m sure there are many more to come. If you’re based in London and would like to join us on one of our outings, then let me know, i’d love to meet you too..!
It’s taken me a little while to post this. Not because I don’t like the images, or the clothes, but because when I put the new layout up, I sort of told myself I would only ever post my own pictures up. Well, working full time doesn’t exactly allow for that, so i’ve had to admit defeat. How do you bloggers that work full time find any time to take pictures?! Anyway, does it really matter when the images i’m posting are this pretty?
‘Pretty’ is a word that i’d use to describe the Sretsis AW10 lookbook. It’s one of those words, along with ‘nice’, that were banned in English essays at school for being cliche and standard. Pretty girls, in pretty clothes of various pretty colours, with pretty telephones, bicycles and fluffy kitties. So, the lookbook may be a little cliche, but that’s what i’m all about..If I could ride a pastel bike whilst wearing pastel colours with a basket on the front with fluffy kitties and flowers in, then I would…(and throw in some of those cliched pastel cupcakes for good measure).
My favourite pieces are the sheer shirt/dress and the coat in the top two images, and the dungarees and..well..all of it really. And I wouldn’t mind some of that shiny hair either..
You can see the whole collection here – it’s ever-so-charming. You can find the Sretsis website here.
Now i’m about to fall asleep – hence all this babbling – but i’ll be back again very soon. I’m going to stockpile photos over the 3-day weekend and schedule posts throughout the week so we don’t have this huge gap between them again. See you soon x
Here I am in my fancy new charity shop attire. Some time ago I told myself that I was only ever going to shop in charity shops, and that lasted all of..a week? Anyway, when I walked past a local charity shop, I saw star print, and was a little curious.
I totally bypassed the Spring Summer 2008 star print hype, so here I am, two years too late in my star print Topshop dress, costing me only £3. I never thought i’d wear star print, it reminded me something tacky you’d wear as a child in the 90s, but I think worn properly it can work rather nicely – and would you say no for £3?!
Another faux pas is my love of black and brown worn together, exhibited above. My cambridge-eque satchel was bought for only £2.50. I was told that it was bought by the lady behind the till for her daughter as she started secondary school, and it obviously wasn’t to her taste as it landed in the charity shop. I wouldn’t have wanted it back when I started secondary school either – satchels were “way uncool”.
I’m going to try the whole charity shop thing again..lets see how long it lasts this time! I have no willpower! x
Anna Karina is my ultimate hair inspiration. She’s the most beautiful woman – and her style was enviable too. I’ve not seen all of her films, but when I’ve got the time I’ll be ticking the rest off the list. She’s extremely charismatic. If I could look like anybody else in the world, it would be a 60’s Anna.
2. Marianne Faithfull
I’ll admit, I’m extremely fickle and don’t know a great deal about this woman, or particularly like her music for that matter, but didn’t she look great?! These pictures make me yearn for knee socks & huge sunglasses.
3. Twiggy Lawson
That hair. That make-up. Those hemlines. I’ve been a bit twiggy-obsessed lately and made my way through the whole of her thread on The Fashion Spot. Of course, she is an icon, but I had a bit of a ‘re-discovery’ and starting saving pictures of her onto my desktop again. “That is the way I want to dress”, I thought, and headed straight off to eBay to start searching her name. You’ll see the results of that little spree very soon!
Here is the giveaway! Finally! I didn’t want to leave it any longer to post, so I apologise for the shoddy photoshop work and any spelling mistakes – i’m half asleep.
I wanted to give you some presents to celebrate my second year blogging, and to say thankyou for how supportive you have been. So..I’ve put together a couple prize packages..!
Birthday Present 1
The first birthday present package includes the beautiful ‘Sherlock’ coat by one of my favourite designers Elizabeth Lau. I have the same coat, and it’s perfect for an English summer. I can testify that it is beautiful in real life – the quality is amazing! The coat is only available in sizes 8, 10 and 14, so please bear that in mind when choosing which present you’d like to get hold of. You will also win a Skipping Girl necklace by Stolen Thunder, a handmade accessories brand – isn’t it cute?!
You will also get some bits and bobs that i’ve collected for you!
Birthday Present 2
If you choose birthday present package number 2, you could win a £100 gift card for Next! So you can find yourself a couple of new outfits. Not only that, you’ll get porcelein and pewter key necklaces from one of my favourite little online shops, None Such Things. Yay! Again, you’ll also get some bits and bobs that i’ve put together.
So! What you have to do to win:
Leave a comment on this post telling me which of the birthday presents you’d like and for extra love, ‘like’ the facebook page that I created for WishWishWish – it will keep you updated with my new posts!
The winner will be picked next Saturday 29th. It is also open to my international readers too – I don’t mind paying a bit more for postage!
Okay, so I failed at getting the new layout up on my blog’s second birthday, but we’ll celebrate over the next few days instead, sound good?! So, what do you think? I wanted something simple, and a little fresher, and i’m really happy with this sweet little layout. It’s not hugely different from my last, so you’ll still be able to find your way around, I was just fed up of looking at the last one, as it had been the same for, well, two years!
There are still things that need to be tweaked/added/changed etc, so if you notice some strange things over the next few days, that would be why – I just couldn’t leave the website down any longer. I had some scary things to contend with whilst it was down, including coming on here and finding that I no longer owned the domain…! For a split second I thought, “So..what should I call my next blog?”. But i’m back and better than before! Now i’ll be able to reply to your comments directly, and over the weekend i’ll be adding more new bits and bobs.
Now, I had this huge masterplan that I would be posting up a huge birthday giveaway, but obviously that was pushed to one side momentarily. Please check back tomorrow for WishWishWish’s birthday giveaway – it will be up if it’s the last thing I do!!! xx
This is how I looked to go out on a date to the waffle house with Miguel. I took a picture of my gorgeous waffle too..but it would have looked a little out of context amongst these photos so I decided to leave it out..!
Like a little girl, i’ve been pairing my socks with everything recently; I put them on with this pastel dress from the Topshop sale and a beehive hair-do (somewhat deflated due to my hair being too shiny and clean!) for a bit of a 60s look. This dress looks so fabulous with my Topshop platforms…but I had other ideas for them, and after falling over in them as I was stepping onto a train (consequently showing everybody my knickers), they’ve been put aside, and in their place are the sensible patent flats.
Unfortunately the rain put an end to this little photoshoot, but i’m happy with the photographs we got even if it was a bit chilly – will summer ever begin?!
P.S – It’s WishWishWish’s 2nd birthday on Wednesday – make sure you pop by for a few surprises!
