On Hanging a Vintage Dress.

Instead of getting on with the mountain of work i’ve got to do before I get back, i’ve been trawling the internet for inspiration of how to make my new bedroom look a little more my own. We’re moving out of a shared house where I didn’t feel that I could change a thing, into a house of our own – just living in one room was taking it’s toll on us. And as you girls know, it’s hard sharing with a boy – especially when they clutter your beautiful room with computers and other boy things. Thankfully Miguel will have his own office, giving me the space to beautify the bedroom without getting in my way! Hooray!

I noticed that a lot of the images in my inspiration folder contained beautiful dresses hanging from the walls. Now, I have plenty of dresses hung around my room, due to the fact I have far too many..but I absolutely love the idea of hanging clothing as a piece of art. Some people have paintings, but I happen to love dresses, so you can guess what was running through my mind when I saw this delicate beauty whilst in the vintage shop the other day…

It looks as if it will fall apart if you touch it; and it almost does, so there is no way it could ever be worn. I don’t have a clue how old it is, but it’s so extremely delicate i’d guess that it was hand made. I’m not sure where it will hang just yet, but i’ll give it a great home and give you a full report once I move in to the new house. I love the thought that i’m giving such an old dress a new lease of life – I don’t imagine that it’s first owner would have imagined it hanging on somebodies wall in 2010. x
